As a Payroll Specialist, you will play a critical role in maintaining compliance, streamlining processes, and providing exceptional support to employees. Your expertise in payroll accounting and taxes will be essential to the smooth operation of this dynamic organization.
Ready to make your mark? As a Payroll Specialist, you’ll be responsible for:
- Ensuring accurate and timely filing of payroll taxes, payments, and statutory information requests across multiple jurisdictions (USA and Canada).
- Staying up-to-date on changes to payroll processing policies, internal procedures, and software updates.
- Collaborating with corporate tax teams on all payroll tax-related matters and with accounting on month-end processes.
- Leading biweekly, monthly, quarterly, and year-end payroll activities, including balancing, reporting, and administering W2s, W2-Cs, T4s, and RL-1s.
- Ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local tax regulations and wage and hour laws.
- Responding to employee inquiries regarding payroll issues with exceptional customer service, including supporting the team with escalated or complex issues.
- Managing tax compliance, including reviewing simulations, setting up new tax jurisdictions, and applying for tax IDs.
- Partnering with Finance on month-end accounting reconciliation, processing journal entries, and providing reports for internal and external audits.
- Assisting with biweekly payroll processing, auditing net payments, tax withholdings, and other payroll tax tasks.
- Working with government agencies in the USA and Canada to set up tax accounts and resolve outstanding issues.
- Maintaining comprehensive and accurate policy and procedure documentation.
Must-Have Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- 5-7 years of experience in payroll operations with high-volume bi-weekly payrolls in a US multi-state environment and Canada
- In-depth knowledge of payroll taxes, accounting, and wage and hour regulations
- Solid understanding of end-to-end payroll operations
- High level of experience with payroll solutions, ideally SAP-HR and ADP GlobalView
- Excellent Microsoft Excel/spreadsheet analysis skills
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, analyze complex payroll issues, and work in a fast-paced environment
The target hiring compensation range for this role is $73.12 to $81.25 an hour. Compensation is based on several factors including, but not limited to education, relevant work experience, relevant certifications, and location.
