Even gig economy companies need to pay fair wages and provide social protections that companies have provided people for 100 years. “You have two classes of employees” today, said Aquent CEO John Chuang, “regular W2 employees who get great benefits, retirement plans, and lots of perks, and then you have the contingent contractors, who are gig economy employees combined with temporary contractors who don't.” Chuang believes American consumers want companies that create value for them and also don't mistreat their workers.
