As an Energy Marshal, you’ll be the technical authority for on-site construction and commissioning related to mission-critical mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems. You’ll champion safety, security, and compliance, ensuring all data center activities adhere to the highest standards. Your expertise in energy isolation program management will be essential in coordinating and executing processes across the site. You’ll collaborate with construction and commissioning teams, identify and mitigate project risks, and partner with Environmental, Health, and Safety teams to drive operational excellence.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the energy isolation program, ensuring all activities are coordinated and executed according to established policies and procedures.
- Review documentation and audit the energy program to establish safe working conditions for construction and commissioning activities.
- Collaborate with construction and commissioning teams to ensure safe testing and validation of MEP systems.
- Identify and mitigate project risks, monitor corrective action plans, and manage Non-Conformance Reports.
- Support the change management process, providing guidance on scope, justification, and technical details.
- Partner with Environmental, Health, and Safety teams to promote a culture of safety, security, and compliance.
- Act as the single point of accountability for all Energy Isolation activities.
- Participate in High-Risk Activity planning meetings.
- Review permits and ensure all energy sources are identified.
- Oversee the approval process for proposed energy isolation procedures.
- Verify and validate the energy isolation permitting process, LOTO procedures, and assurance processes.
- Establish and manage an Energy Isolation assurance process.
- Review qualifications and assign Authorizing Energy Marshal and Performing Energy Isolation Coordinators.
- Act as the subject matter expert in energy isolation incident investigations.
- Exercise independent authority to stop unsafe work practices related to energy isolation.
Must-Haves:
- 5+ years of MEP construction experience on multi-group, multi-disciplinary projects; mission-critical facility experience is a plus.
- Strong understanding of electrical theory and practical experience maintaining and operating critical electrical equipment (e.g., paralleling switchgear, redundant UPS systems, DC battery strings).
- NFPA 70E training (Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace).
- Practical experience with building management systems, automation, controls, and frameworks.
- Demonstrated experience with mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems and installations.
- Knowledge of major regulations, industry codes and standards, construction materials, means, and methods.
- Ability to interpret Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), construction drawings, etc.
- Excellent analytical, communication, interpersonal, planning, and organizational skills.
- Strong report writing skills, including the ability to lead/author investigation reports independently.
