As a Standards Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of facility design and construction for a leading automotive manufacturer in North America. This role offers a unique opportunity to collaborate with external partners, internal teams, and upper management to develop, refine, and implement construction standards. You will be responsible for driving the entire lifecycle of standards development, from initial planning and drafting to review, implementation, and ongoing maintenance. This position is ideal for a highly organized and detail-oriented engineer with a passion for continuous improvement and a desire to contribute to large-scale projects.
What You’ll Do:
- Collaborate with external firms to develop and maintain cutting-edge construction standards and specifications.
- Lead workgroup draft reviews, incorporating feedback and ensuring effective implementation of revisions.
- Present standards and specifications to upper management for review and approval.
- Develop and manage the annual schedule for standards development, tracking progress and providing monthly status reports.
- Analyze construction change requests, major breakdown reports, and customer feedback to identify areas for improvement and incorporate lessons learned into revisions.
- Provide support for study requests related to renewals and utilities as needed.
Must-Haves:
- 5+ years of experience with standards and specifications within the construction industry (Architectural/Engineering firm, construction planning, standards development).
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
- Strong project management skills, demonstrating the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Bluebeam (or other PDF editing software).
Nice-to-Haves:
- Professional Engineering License (PE).
- 3+ years of experience in industrial mechanical systems (piping, chilled water, compressed air, etc.).
The target hiring compensation range for this role is $36 to $40 an hour. Compensation is based on several factors including, but not limited to education, relevant work experience, relevant certifications, and location.
