* Support and evolve robust relational database environments (with a primary focus on a leading commercial database, alongside exposure to open-source and other commercial databases) through comprehensive maintenance, lifecycle management, migrations, upgrades, and automation.
* Tune and optimize database performance, availability, and reliability, including capacity planning, indexing strategies, and workload analysis.
* Collaborate on patching and change execution, which may involve scheduled after-hours and weekend maintenance.
* Troubleshoot production issues end-to-end, develop cleanup and maintenance scripts, and drive root-cause resolution to prevent recurrence.
* Support high availability and disaster recovery capabilities, ensuring failover readiness, robust recovery processes, and operational validation.
* Participate in a production support on-call rotation, including weekends as scheduled.
* Create and maintain clear technical documentation, operational runbooks, and best practices to support consistent operations and knowledge sharing.
* Mentor and guide junior and mid-level team members through coaching, pairing, and review of technical approaches.

To excel in this role and help us challenge the status quo, successful candidates should possess:

**Required Qualifications:**

* 12+ years of hands-on experience with a leading commercial relational database system, including advanced clustering, storage management, and data replication technologies.
* Willingness to work weekends and night shifts / US timing as needed.
* Hands-on experience across development and production database administration responsibilities, including upgrades, migrations, patching, backup/recovery, monitoring, and lifecycle management.
* Proficiency with enterprise database management and replication tools.
* Advanced SQL and procedural SQL skills, including performance tuning and optimization.
* Working knowledge of database security concepts (access controls, auditing, patching practices, and compliance-aligned operations).
* Scripting and automation experience (e.g., shell scripting, common scripting languages) to streamline operational and maintenance tasks.
* Experience supporting high-availability and recovery capabilities, including troubleshooting failover scenarios and disaster recovery support.
* Experience developing or supporting ETL/data movement processes for large data sets.
* Experience using a variety of collaboration and delivery tools.
* Exposure to DevOps practices and tools (e.g., source control, CI/CD platforms).
* Ability to write and maintain clear technical documentation and knowledge artifacts.
* Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

**Nice-to-Have Qualifications:**

* Administration experience with open-source relational database systems, including cloud-based deployments.
* Administration and performance tuning experience with other commercial relational database systems.
* Experience with additional database monitoring and diagnostic tools.
* Experience designing enterprise solutions for backup, monitoring, alerting, security compliance, and patching.
* Prior experience in the financial services industry.
* Relevant professional database certifications.
* Demonstrated experience mentoring others and contributing to team learning and shared standards.
* Process improvement experience using AI is a plus.
