  • Be able to work on a W-2 basis.  C2C or 1099 is not permitted for this position
  • Be able to work the following schedule:  Tuesday – Saturday, 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM

Key Responsibilities:

  • Directly assist nursing and medical teams with all aspects of postmortem care, including sensitive cases of fetal demise and perinatal loss.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for families and other associated parties, guiding them through disposition and release processes.
  • Provide expert guidance to patients, family members, and hospital staff, ensuring unique preferences and cultural/religious practices are honored.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, and relevant legal and administrative bodies to ensure timely and compliant disposition with minimal liability.
  • Oversee the management of deceased patients, ensuring proper identification, accurate documentation, and dignified storage in appropriate environments.
  • Facilitate autopsies and organ donation processes, acting as a liaison between pathology departments and organ procurement teams, respecting patient and family wishes.
  • Prepare and facilitate viewings for deceased patients, ensuring a dignified, respectful, and peaceful presentation for loved ones.
  • Conduct thorough next-of-kin determinations and communicate with families, providing clear information and consultation on autopsy, disposition, and social services.
  • Perform accurate and timely entry of death certificate records into electronic systems and manage complex case documentation.
  • Act as a subject matter expert, providing essential “just-in-time” education for physicians, nursing staff, and families on cause of death and post-mortem procedures.
  • Coordinate the release of remains documentation and manage holds for autopsies and anatomical gift programs.

Must-Have Qualifications:

  • Minimum four (4) years of experience in a healthcare or bereavement setting.
  • Demonstrated human relations and effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Critical attention to detail.
  • Strong coordination and organizational skills required to prioritize deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze clinical data and medical records.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Experience in funeral home, mortuary, or healthcare decedent care.
  • Previous experience in patient satisfaction/customer service.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and/or bereavement training.
  • Experience with electronic death registration systems.
  • Lic Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) certification.
  • Funeral Director License.

The target hiring compensation range for this role is $53.04 – $57.69 an hour. Compensation is based on several factors, including but not limited to education, relevant work experience, relevant certifications, and location.
