The Senior Financial Underwriter, supporting a healthcare client of Aquent, computes rates for renewing and prospective group Dental and Vision accounts of moderate to high complexity. Reporting to the Manager of Financial Underwriting, this role involves an in-depth evaluation of variable factors and the preparation of comprehensive financial reports for large-scale accounts. Responsibilities include providing expense estimates and accurate analysis of financial exhibits while offering rationale and support to internal teams and clients regarding rate computations and financial activity.
Operating with considerable latitude, this individual makes independent decisions on technical project approaches and exercises significant autonomy in determining objectives. Beyond tactical execution, the role influences departmental strategy and ensures all assignments are performed without direct supervision. Final deliverables must reflect data-driven insights that maintain accuracy and support the organization’s broader financial objectives.
Responsibilities:
- Recommends and communicates products, and competitive pricing to meet customer requirements.
- Reviews contracts and certificates, working with Product and Compliance areas to evaluate ability to match plans for takeover.
- Has strong knowledge of manual rating systems as well as how to utilize experience, provider and management reporting data in making pricing decisions.
- Negotiates with Sales and Account Management as needed in preparing offers for new and existing business. May connect with agents/brokers and clients as needed, to resolve risk, plan and rating concerns.
- Responsible for administrative processing of cases, utilizing various UW tools, systems and databases to complete evaluations.
- Effective documentation and communication of UW decisions.
- Demonstrates strong time, organizational and desk management
- Provides mentoring/coaching in development of technical skills of others, supporting the growth of the team. Conducts training for sales and/or underwriting staff as needed.
- Participates in project work to develop or improve underwriting processes.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or comparable experience
- 5 or more years of underwriting Dental and Vision experience rated groups, and financial analysis/risk analysis experience
- Comprehensive understanding of risk pool management
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Access
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree
- Experience with other lines of group coverage, such as Life and Disability benefits
The target hiring compensation range for this role is $45 to $49 an hour. Compensation is based on several factors including, but not limited to education, relevant work experience, relevant certifications, and location.
