This is a hybrid position in downtown Vancouver, BC. It will start was a 12 month engagement.
About the Role
The Development Support team member works with development teams to provide early testing, documentation creation (e.g. test cases and test briefs, QA Confluence pages), and handles basically anything that could potentially keep a Core QA team member out of the game. They provide feedback to the QA Leads on the health of their area/feature(s) and to the development team on the testing of their area/feature(s). They are the primary contact for our QA team, fielding design questions from Core QA and are the initial development teams first point of contact for asks on the status of testing, or to adjust the testing Core QA needs to complete.
What You’ll Do
- Collaborate directly with development teams to provide early-stage testing and feedback on new features and systems.
- Create comprehensive documentation, including detailed test cases, test briefs, and quality assurance pages.
- Proactively identify and address potential roadblocks for the core QA team, ensuring a streamlined testing process.
- Provide regular, insightful feedback to QA Leads regarding the health and stability of assigned features and areas.
- Communicate testing progress, findings, and recommendations directly to development teams.
- Serve as the primary liaison for the core QA team, fielding design-related questions and providing clarification.
- Act as the initial point of contact for development teams, providing updates on testing status and coordinating necessary adjustments to testing plans.
- Contribute to a culture of quality, innovation, and continuous improvement within a triple-A development environment.
What You’ll Bring
- Demonstrated experience across multiple development cycles, with a strong focus on online Player-vs-Player (PVP) and Player-vs-Environment (PVE) game modes.
- Strong understanding of:
- Match Flow & Gameplay Systems Testing
- Ensuring sessions progress as expected with no blockers to victory or failure conditions.
- Verifying objective flow, timers, and scoring systems function properly.
- Testing wave logic, round transitions, and escalation systems in different match types.
- Combat & AI Testing
- Verifying enemy and ally AI behavior, pathfinding, and combat response
- Ensuring enemy spawn logic aligns with intended difficulty curves and map layout.
- Validating host/client behavior, including replication of animations and stats.
- Testing ability usage, cooldown systems, and AI reactions to player actions.
- Multiplayer Functionality Testing
- Testing drop-in/drop-out co-op functionality.
- Verifying objective sync and scoring across multiple players.
- Validating network stability and desync issues in online co-op.
- Identifying desyncs, lag, or matchmaking inconsistencies.
- Map & Environmental Testing
- Verifying spawn zones, objective locations, and player access areas.
- Testing for collision issues, exploits, or pathing bugs
- Ensuring interactive objects behave as expected across gameplay variants.
- Verifying lighting, materials, and post-processing effects are consistent.
- Performance & Stability Testing
- Identifying memory usage issues, framerate drops, and stability concerns under load.
- Testing game stability across multiple hardware targets (e.g., Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC).
- Monitoring for audio/visual streaming issues, pop-ins, or sync problems.
- Match Flow & Gameplay Systems Testing
- Experience writing test briefs, instructions, and playtest documentation.
- Ability to estimate testing scope and effort based on feature complexity.
- Familiarity with bug tracking and test planning tools (e.g., Jira, DevTrack, TestRail).
- Strong organization and documentation skills, with attention to reproducibility and clarity.
- Excellent communication skills, with comfort interfacing across QA, Dev, and Production teams.
- Willingness to learn proprietary tools and pipelines, and to adapt quickly to evolving content
Nice-to-Have Qualifications
- Unreal Engine experience
- Jira, Confluence, Perforce and SharePoint experience
- Strong adaptable teaching skills (teaching to lots of different types of learners)
- Familiarity with multiplayer game modes.
