We’re looking for a freelance copywriter with a passion for sports, retail, and storytelling to join our client’s creative team. This is a unique consultant opportunity to shape the voice of one of Canada’s most recognized sports retailers—bringing campaigns and seasonal stories to life across digital channels.

You’ll write and refine omni-channel content, including:

  • Emails and homepage content
  • Digital banner ads
  • Social media posts
  • Campaign-level messaging (holiday, winter sports, Olympics activations)

This role blends fast-turnaround weekly deliverables with larger campaign storytelling. You’ll collaborate closely with a Copy Manager, designers, project managers, and studio teams to make sure every piece of copy is engaging, authentic, and on-brand.

What You Will Do

  • Write engaging, polished copy that connects with Sport Chek’s customers across digital channels.
  • Translate vendor and stakeholder input into clear, customer-facing content in Sport Chek’s voice.
  • Research sports culture and trends to ensure copy resonates authentically (e.g., skier vs. snowboarder, baseball fans in October, Olympic athletes).
  • Support day-to-day channel deliverables while contributing to larger seasonal and campaign-level storytelling.
  • Present and articulate copy ideas confidently to stakeholders.
  • Work within brand guidelines, copy style guides, and feedback processes to refine and improve messaging.
  • Manage deadlines effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven ad-writing and retail/e-commerce copywriting experience. (Sports, outdoor, or active lifestyle brands are a major plus.)
  • Strong knowledge of CP style, spelling, and grammar.
  • Ability to make copy sound authentic to athletes, fans, and outdoor enthusiasts.
  • A proactive mindset—willing to research and go beyond the brief to create copy that resonates.
  • Comfortable balancing short-turnaround deliverables with campaign-level storytelling.
  • Excellent time management and communication skills.
  • Collaborative team player who works well with designers and project managers.
  • Passion for sports and/or active lifestyle—either personally or through a demonstrated ability to write for these audiences.
