The primary function of this role is to manage sales and use tax compliance, ensuring accurate and timely filings across multiple states. Key responsibilities include managing tax returns, reviewing sales tax exemptions, reconciling accounts, and handling notices from various jurisdictions. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills, particularly in Excel and tax software such as Avalara, and have a proven ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. This position is integral to the success of the tax team and the overall financial health of the company. This Tax Accountant will be responsible for managing all aspects of sales and use tax compliance, including data analysis, return preparation, and reconciliation. They will work closely with the accounting team and other departments to ensure accurate and timely tax reporting.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage sales and use tax compliance for all states.
  • Prepare and file sales and use tax returns.
  • Review sales tax exemptions.
  • Reconcile sales tax accounts.
  • Manage notices from various state tax jurisdictions.
  • Perform month-end reconciliations and journal entries.
  • Manage ad hoc filings such as annual reports, commercial activity tax, and gross receipts tax.
  • Utilize tax software such as Avalara, NetSuite, and CSC.
  • Analyze large datasets using Excel.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field.
  • Experience in retail a plus
  • 5+ years of experience in state sales and use tax compliance.
  • Proficiency in Avalara, NetSuite, and CSC preferred.
  • Strong Excel skills.
  • Experience with Louisiana and Colorado tax regulations a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • CPA preferred but not required.
