We are seeking a skilled Database Developer (SQL Engineer) to join our team in the retirement services space, specifically focusing on enhancing the performance testing discipline for our back-end record-keeping systems. This role is crucial in ensuring the scalability and efficiency of our Microsoft SQL Server databases as we grow our business and handle larger client loads and more complex transactions. You will be responsible for loading test data, diagnosing performance bottlenecks, and optimizing database performance through stored procedure tuning, index strategies, and maintenance tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Performance Testing Support:
- Assist in loading test data into Microsoft SQL Server databases to simulate various scale and test scenarios.
- Identify and troubleshoot performance issues in SQL processes.
- Utilize diagnostic tools to trace and analyze SQL processes.
- Database Optimization and Tuning:
- Analyze and optimize SQL stored procedures and queries for performance.
- Recommend and implement index strategies for improved database efficiency.
- Develop and implement database maintenance jobs.
- Diagnose and resolve performance bottlenecks in large-scale databases.
- Rewrite SQL store procedures and queries.
- Database Development and Maintenance:
- Design, develop, test, implement, and maintain new and existing databases.
- Create management methods and systems for efficient information access.
- Develop functional requirements for database modifications based on client needs.
- Provide data management support and generate database reports.
- Design and develop database architectures.
- Problem Solving and Communication:
- Employ strong problem-solving skills to address database performance and functionality issues.
- Communicate effectively (written and verbal) with team members and stakeholders.
- Plan and articulate technical solutions clearly.
- Maintain strong organizational skills.
Required Skills and Experience:
- 3-5 years of experience in a comparable database development or SQL engineering role.
- Extensive experience with Microsoft SQL Server, including stored procedures, index strategies, and performance tuning.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve performance issues in enterprise-level databases.
- Experience working with large-scale databases and complex SQL statements.
- Familiarity with database diagnostic and tracing tools.
- Strong understanding of database architecture and design principles.
- Experience within the retirement services industry, specifically with 401(k) administration (e.g., TIAA, Fidelity), is highly desirable.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
The target hiring compensation range for this role is $40.92 to $45.47/Hourly (W2). Compensation is based on several factors including, but not limited to education, relevant work experience, relevant certifications, and location.
