A large utilities company is hiring a freelance writer/editor to join its dynamic Corporate Communications team. The assignment will run from about February to August 2016. The writer/editor must be a skilled writer and reporter, as well as a top-notch copy editor who enjoys boiling down complex ideas into relevant news for our 15,000 employees and 10 million customers. We’re looking for someone intellectually flexible with the abilities to translate corporate policies into compelling stories; juggle multiple projects, and plan and manage deadlines.

The ideal candidate will:
- Be a strategic thinker with experience developing communication campaigns, and and an interest in the energy industry, occupational health, and the way technology is changing consumer expectations.
- Be able to work with all levels of the company, from field and union employees to executives.
- Have a sharp eye for detail and work well both independently and with teams.
- Desire to use metrics to develop, support and improve communications, particularly emails to external audiences.
- Have experience writing and developing communications for print and digital including large reports, websites, newsletters, digital signs, and posters.
- Collaborate with graphics artists, web developers, video, and photographers to create comprehensive packages
-Speechwriting experience a plus

Candidates must have a bachelor's degree in English or journalism, and a minimum of five years of professional writing experience. The writer/editor will report to the editorial manager in Corporate Communications. The position will also serve as an emergency responder and participate in all aspects of public affairs responsibilities during emergencies and assist in preparation of emergency preparedness information.
