Website Specialist

Come work with one of the top research universities in the World. This world renowned institution is looking for a Web Specialist to help with the migration of multiple sites.


The Website Specialist will be responsible for coordinating a website content audit, site development, CMS migration, and deployment. The Website Specialist will collaborate with approximately 30 offices to conduct a content audit of existing office sites and develop a comprehensive information architecture. Additionally, this position will develop updated web sites for all client offices consistent with university branding and messaging as well as migrating sites into a content management system. This is a technical position requiring the ability to develop a Wordpress theme from layered PSD files.

Essential Job Functions:
• Working closely with offices throughout the system, conduct a content audit of all existing client websites, assessing the organization and timeliness of the current information available to audiences.
• Use audit findings in order to develop recommendations for the re-design of a comprehensive university website including content inventories, wireframes, taxonomies, and database structures.
• Work with clients' Committee to develop architecture, timeline, and deployment plan.
• Work with individual offices to develop office website architectures, timelines, and content consistent with client and university goals.
• Develop themes/templates, plugins, and custom features for Wordpress
• Implement and use a source control/versioning system such as Git or SVN
• Incorporate social media, such as facebook, twitter, Linked In, blogs, and Flicker, as appropriate into websites.
• Conduct usability testing for all new sites prior to launch.
• Conduct training of designated staff on benefits of content management system and how to upkeep sites.
• Additional areas of responsibility include content management, web accessibility, cross-device and browser compatibility, search engine optimization and web analytics.
• Other duties as assigned.
Experience
• Bachelor’s degree required.
• 2-3 years of related experience conducting content audits, drafting information architecture, and developing and maintaining web site
• Prior experience with Wordpress theme and plugin development required
• Experience with version control methods (Git or SVN)
• Experience with responsive and mobile development frameworks preferred
• Prior experience with Site Executive a plus.
• Strong writing, editing, and project management experience
Special Skills
• Strong PHP, MYSQL, Javascript, HTML, and CSS skills required
• Apache, XML and AJAX skills a plus
• Proficiency in web and graphics tools (Photoshop, Google Analytics, Google webmaster tools)
• Requires a high level of independent decision-making and complex problem resolution.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills; attention to detail.
• Possess strong communications and organizational skills.
• Must be able to work meet deadlines, train colleagues, multitask, prioritize projects, and interact effectively with individuals at all levels and from diverse cultures.
• Familiarity with a higher education environment is a plus.
