Experienced Web Writer/Editor for the agency’s website. The successful candidate will join the speechwriting and editorial services team to identify opportunities for public awareness of programs and results and maintain the overall quality of all web content with an eye toward maintaining brand voice and positioning. In the near term, this individual will work with a broad swath of staff in a major website re-design and re-development project. The Web Writer/Editor will write, edit, enhance, update, and build web content targeting our core stakeholders. While this position works collaboratively with subject matter experts, the web Writer/Editor will be part of the Speechwriting and Editorial Services team.

DUTIES
1. Writes and/or edits materials for the public website, including country-specific pages, and serves as the written content manager for the corporate website.
2. Manages the website’s editorial calendar by working collaboratively across departments and competing interests to maximize organizational goals that align with public affairs strategy, the corporation’s strategy and other department strategies as necessary.
3. Monitors and maintains the website’s content inventory to keep it timely, relevant and newsworthy.
4. Works collaboratively with web team and all of Public Affairs, as necessary, to deliver a compelling user experience.
5. Manages the “front page” and other key elements of Intranet (VINE) as a key internal communications tool to keep staff informed of latest agency information.
6. Strengthens a network of internal communicators, particularly those interested in writing, by managing the editorial committee and coordinating with other relevant staff.
7. Identifies, designs and implements new web-based products.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Applicants must meet all the qualification requirements, including education and all qualifying specialized experience described below. Desired qualifications will be considered only once all education and qualifying specialized experience requirements are met. Please clearly demonstrate and document that you possess the following:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in English, journalism, mass media and communications, or political science/international affairs.

Qualifying specialized experience:
• Three to five (3-5) years of experience writing for websites or other online publications that demonstrate strong writing, copy editing and proofing skills. Experience should highlight compelling and accurate content in a variety of styles for diverse audiences.
• Demonstrated ability to manage an editorial calendar and content inventory for a public website.
• Demonstrated experience in learning new technology tools for online uses, and remaining current with best practices in online writing and generation of increased web traffic.
• Understanding of content optimization, Associated Press (AP) AP style, social media, and how to execute search engine optimization.
• Experience and understanding of project management, meeting deadlines and ability to work in a fast-paced environment in coordination with various colleagues.
• Skill in oral and written communication and knowledge of the principles, methods, practices, and techniques including strategic messaging and website content development.

Desired qualifications:
Please include in your resume any demonstrated experience with the following:
• Understanding and experience with common web-publishing technologies (i.e. HTML) and content management systems, especially Drupal.
• Knowledge of Section 508 federal accessibility laws and how they affect web content
• Familiarity with website design issues such as browser quirks, usability testing and web standards.
