The Web Designer designs web sites and other web-related collateral (email marketing, web advertising, etc) and produces both low- and high-fidelity representations of proposed designs (wireframes, screen comps, and prototypes).
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Creates web site design concepts; produces screen mock-ups or other documentation to convey design ideas.
Applies new design ideas to refine and enhance existing sites.
Creates, updates, modifies and corrects web graphical design elements, including photographic images, illustrations, multimedia files, etc.
Codes front-end interfaces including XHTML and CSS.
Resolves cross-browser issues.
Resolves web site usability issues.
Ensures 508 Compliance.
Ensures version control of files.
Create production templates that can be easily used by junior staff for maintenance tasks
Creates graphic design documentation such as web style guides as needed.
B.S. or B.A. degree in information design, graphic design, interaction design, art or a related field of study, plus a minimum of 5 years of related experience, or equivalent education or experience.
Formal training in design theory and its application required.
Ability to create innovative, appealing, usable designs appropriate for the product’s intended audience essential.
Understanding and knowledge of web usability principles and ability to recommend and implement solutions to usability problems required.
Must be proficient with common web design software tools; Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Illustrator, Acrobat, etc) especially helpful.
Must be proficient at resolving cross-browser compatibility issues.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to proofread and unit test own work required.
Familiarity with web design and software development best practices important; experience with version control software tools helpful.
Experience with one or more of the following a plus: email marketing, multimedia production, social media, mobile applications, or content management systems.
