Web Communication Specialist

A leading non-profit policy group in education has a need for a Web Communication Specialist.
The ideal candidate will have a broad scope of technical, design and communications experience. The Web Communication Specialist will primarily maintain and evolve our Drupal based web presence, but also contribute to marketing, media, and public relations efforts. This position will work closely with the communications team implementing user-friendly designs and creative strategies to translate the organization's work into various dissemination and outreach channels. The ideal candidate will have strong working knowledge of key web technologies and design applications, and will be a creative thinker as well as a technical problem solver. The Web Communication Specialist will assist in overall communications strategy and seek ways to help to raise the visibility, enhance the image, and accurately reflect information pertaining to the organization.


Time Commitment: 6 month with potential to extend
Rate: Hourly/DOE

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

• Working with the communications team in a strategic manner, create a compelling, successful user experience, keeping public informed of organization's work through multiple robust channels
including e-newsletters, print materials, web-page content, video, social media, eBooks
• Provide day-to-day management and ongoing improvements to current website to include troubleshooting issues, new content development and maintenance, providing quality assurance and consistency
for site and brand. Manage priorities, workflow, and budget for external vendors.
• Analyze and interpret impact of content & strategy on stated goals.
• Engage in efforts to understand user needs such as heuristics, usability testing, focus groups and web analytics to inform and refine web experiences.
• Develop strategies and options to address project and staff needs, addressing cost and time factors, promoting buy-in, adjusting /implementing based on feedback.
• Collaboration with team on dissemination projects, including design/layout of reports, briefs, info-graphics, promotional materials, and other collateral for both web and print.
Skills:
• Expert at working with Drupal and other web CMS environments
• Strong sense of clean and practical visual design.
• User-focused content development and excellent writing skills
• Expert working with graphic editing software, including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat and other Adobe products to create web-ready (and print) images, as well as strong Office suite skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Strong overall communication skills, both oral and written.

User Experience Design, Information Architecture
• Ability to produce essential aids to organize ideas, strategies and communicate those concepts to the greater team. Such items may be low and high level wireframes, flowcharts, graphic proofs, web-based prototypes and others.

Graphic & Interface Design
• Understand how to effectively integrate visual elements within navigation and content structures
• Produce effective graphic proofs of web pages;
• Expert level graphic editing & design software skills, including InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator
• Understand how to solve typical web-related design challenges, including typography, screen size
• Able to produce graphic images, Flash presentations and other necessary multi-media elements.

Front-end Web Development
• Expert at HTML, and CSS, Drupal and related CMS environments
• Ability to create cross-browser compliant content;
• Efficient SEO optimization techniques and analytics analysis

Requirements:
General
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; preferably in communications, design or related discipline.
• At least 5 years of strong technical experience working with web and social media platforms
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, including problem solving and consensus building among cross-functional teams
• Communicate clearly and effectively through the various stages of design and development with ability to facilitate technical concerns to non-technical staff.
• High level of self-initiated problem-solving skills and an ability to prioritize tasks to meet multiple deadlines; excellent organizational skills, accuracy and self-motivation; demonstrated customer service focus

Desirable:
• 10 plus years of communications/design/web experience desired
• Track record designing, executing and implementing web technologies and services: SEM, SEO, Analytics, Google Analytics & AdWords
• Social Media administration
• Prior experience developing for mobile devices
• Database experience
• Interest and/or experience in the Education and/or non-profit field desirable
