Web Accessibility Consultant - WCAG 2.0

Our client, a small Customer Experience (CX) group is seeking an experienced Assistive Technology Expert level user to join the team as a Web Accessibility Consultant in SF.

The Customer Experience team designs, writes, and develops world-class, award winning online and mobile experiences for consumer and small business customers. These products are accessed by over 10 MM active users every month. The team is comprised of full time and contract contributors specializing in interaction design, visual design, and content strategy. Each of these specialists work collaboratively using a user centered design framework and their projects typically adhere to detailed standards and guidelines.

The Accessibility consultant is the Customer Experience team’s SME on Accessibility requirements and AT tools. This person will work in a highly collaborative environment, supporting other disciplines in CX to deliver accessibility solutions throughout the lifecycle of a project. This includes testing with Assistive Technologies or interpreting the test results of others (vendor).

This position will contribute to the writing of Online Standards and Guidelines insuring compliance with WCAG success criteria.

A passion to advocate for accessible solutions and teach others is critical to success in this role. In addition, the role will contribute to shared CX goals, including helping to define and improve the team’s accessibility-related processes.

Responsibilities
• Promote accessibility within the organization; advocate for considering accessibility as a vital part of the customer experience
• Help maintain tools and resources such as testing software and documented standards
• Contribute to accessibility training of others -- Lead and present training sessions to internal and external audiences --- Develop and facilitate accessibility training and presentations
• Perform various tasks related to the governance of quality, compliant front-end code
• Plan and perform web accessibility testing
• Ensure that solutions for accessibility contribute to a positive user experience for all customers
• Vendor testing of assistive technologies such as JAWS, VoiceOver, and ZoomText, with the understanding of their interactions with multiple browsers and platform combinations.


Requirements
• 1 - 3 years’ experience as part of an in-house development team or design agency consulting to Fortune 500 clients
• Expert level user of various (at least one) assistive technologies such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, or Window Eyes
• Familiarity with WCAG 2.0
• Good understanding of web technologies such as HTML, mobile platforms, and ARIA
• Passionate about developing accessible digital solutions and processes
• Must be organized, able to act independently, and able to switch rapidly between different tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to manage multiple projects with competing priorities in a cross-functional environment
• Proven ability to identifying creative approaches to accessibility challenges and problems
• Great collaboration, communication, problem-solving, planning and engagement skills Ability to act, partner and build relationships with diverse sets of partners at varying levels within the organization

Preferred:
• Banking or financial services background
• Developer experience or similar education
• Proven experience successfully working with a geographically remote team
