Visual Designer

Education is one of our top priorities. Encouraging and fostering the next generation of leaders starts with a solid educational system. We have an imperative to apply our time and talents to make education available to all. We are looking for a talented Visual Designer to join our small and agile team that is working on the next generation of hardware, software and service for K-12 education.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced visual designer who can jump in and contribute to the production of print, digital and UI-related graphic elements. They must be able to think at both the “big picture” and the pixel level and be comfortable working rapidly to generate ‘lo-fi to hi-fi’ artifacts. Their design aesthetic should be fresh and current, and they should have an impeccable eye for graphic design, color and motion that they express through a confident mixing of 2D and 3D approaches. An understanding of graphic styles, typography, visual hierarchy, motion graphics, and branding as well as icons, logos and user interface design are required.

Candidates should be well versed in current creation tools like InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop. Having 3D skills in a modern 3D application such as Cinema4D, Maya or Modo is a big plus. The right candidate will be knowledgeable of design history and up-to-date on current trends in visual design, technology and user interface/experiences. This individual is expected to bring creativity, efficient communication and high impact to the production of visuals and collaborate effectively while working closely with the Education Workshop team as well as Marketing, Sales and Engineering.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the Education art director to deliver fresh, performant, and compelling graphic materials that balance strong aesthetics with clear functionality
- Design information graphics, data and narrative concepts with clarity, impact and fun
- Actively contribute to the development the visual communication and brand identity needs for the Workshop’s curriculum materials, packaging, posters, conference materials, presentations, etc.
- Create sketches, storyboards, wireframes, pre-viz, walk-throughs and paper prototypes to communicate designs in support of the visual development process.
- Iterate in low fidelity to arrive at the best possible design then execute at increasingly high fidelity to create and deliver shipping quality visuals and content
- Contribute in all phases of product development including hands-on crafting of experiences, designing and creating assets and visual elements

Primary Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience in design with an emphasis on graphic design, motion-graphics, and some user interface visualization
- 2+ years of experience and proven commercial proficiency in mainstream, high-end design software packages like Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and After Effects
- Experience designing/creating for multiple platforms
- Expertise creating a variety of visual design documents including mood boards, storyboards, creative briefs, motion studies, and visual style guidelines
- Meticulous sense of detail and ability to seek out simple solutions to complex design challenges
- Excellent professional communication, collaboration, time-management and organizational skills
- BA/BS in Graphic Design, Illustration, UI/UX, Digital Media Design & Production, or related field/discipline
