Job Description

In this role, you will be working with a highly talented and experienced team on an upcoming triple-A simulation style game. This is a contract position.


Role Overview

The Visual Effects Artist is responsible for prototyping and creating Effects for real-time use in games. Modern games rely on spectacular visual effects to deliver a powerful gameplay experience. Realistic explosions, fire, and smoke paint images worth thousands of words per frame. At the same time, a small puff of steam or an accurately dripping faucet placed just so can provide an environment with life-like subtleties that make the difference between a player suspending disbelief and fully immersing in the game… or not. The Visual Effects artist is responsible for creating all sorts of gripping visuals, big and small alike. A great Effects artist can make the difference between a decent game experience and one that truly moves you!

Responsibilities

Work closely with game designers, scripters, and Art Directors to create and place realistic VFX for games.
Model, texture, animate, and light VFX assets to Design & Art Directors’ specifications.
Work closely with engineers and leads to troubleshoot art pipelines as needed.
Meticulous, organized approach to creating technically efficient and visually compelling VFX assets.


Desired Skills & Experience

Minimum 3 years experience creating Visual Effects for video games with at least 2 shipped games as a VFX artist.
Demonstrable technical skills working with VFX pipelines for real-time 3D game engines.
Demonstrable skills using text-based scripting tools to create, place, and trigger effects.
Ability to conceptualize and animate realistic particle effects such as fire, explosions, smoke, moving water, sparks, dust, clouds, exhaust, weather, etc.
Must have demonstrable artistic talent to create compelling textures for particle effects.
Must have strong knowledge of lighting, color, and composition.
Expertise in Photoshop strongly preferred.
Experience with Maya, MEL, and Python preferred.
Passion for simulation-based games preferred.
