User Experience Designer

Under the supervision of the Director of Information Technology and Institutional Research, the User Experience (UX) Designer assists the Graduate Division in developing user-centric information systems, applications, and business processes. The UX Designer will conduct detailed analyses and evaluations of business requirements and will develop comprehensive information architecture solutions, user interfaces, and graphic designs for Graduate Division web and media applications. Incumbent will conduct focus groups, usability testing, and employ related requirements gathering methods and processes; will develop wireframes, prototypes, taxonomies, and navigation systems. The UX Designer will also serve as the lead on web and media related communication, branding, and marketing strategies impacting the user-experience, and will be responsible for the execution of the division’s social media and user-engagement practices and services.


Qualifications:

• Understanding and demonstrated working knowledge of information architecture practices, methodologies, tools, and services (Required)
• Understanding of the user-centered design process (user research, user needs assessment, user modeling, design, usability evaluation and developer relations).
• Understanding of design principles, guidelines and relevant policies including web accessibility standards. (Required)
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in evaluating business systems or process and recommending/implementing improvements, process re-engineering (Required)
• Skills in diagramming, prototyping and using design tools. (Required)
• Demonstrated effective writing, communication and interpersonal skills. (Required)
• Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization. (Required)
• Effective time management skills. (Required)
• Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team. Demonstrates problem solving skills. Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines.
• Basic web and/or software development skills. (Required)
• Demonstrated experience implementing user interface design best practices and guidelines in websites and/or production software (Required)
• Demonstrated knowledge of design principles and guidelines for area of expertise (i.e., visual design, interaction design, information/data visualization, user interface software). (Required)
• Basic understanding of common software architectures and IT infrastructure technologies, especially presentation layer technologies (e.g. HTML, CSS). Demonstrated experience using common graphic design software such a Photoshop and In Design. (Required)
• Knowledge of common tools and software for creating wireframes, mockups, and prototypes (Required)
• Demonstrated experience using and managing common social media tools and services (e.g. Twitter, Facebook, etc.) (Required)
• Knowledge of the application development lifecycle and project management techniques and tools (Preferred)
• Understanding and experience in web analytics (Preferred)
• Master’s Degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Information Design, Industrial Design, or Information Science (Preferred)
