User Experience Designer

Our client is an innovative educational company focused on developing math and science online educational products for teenagers in preparation for college.

The User Experience Designer is responsible for research (user interviews, ethnography, persona development), design (sketching, group ideation, information architecture, interaction design, low-fidelity prototypes), documentation, and user testing. The successful candidate for the role will be a User Experience Designer who has a passion for getting out of the building to learn how to improve the lives of our potential and current customers.

Idea Candidates have:
• An exceptional portfolio, containing examples of engaged communities, complex interaction/tools, and customer funnel engagement
• A passion for making users' lives easier, and leveraging user research and usability studies to do so
• Experience designing consumer and/or teen-facing applications (a plus)
• Excitement around our goal of making a substantial and enduring difference to education and learning
• Experience working in an Agile/SCRUM environment and a bias for action.
• 5+ years product design experience, ideally for web or mobile
• A solid understanding of technologies such as CSS, JavaScript, and XML

You will:
• Conceive, design, and prototype new interactions for all components of a technology startup.
• Work closely with the product team to define feature hypotheses, perform usability studies, and take action based on results.
• Establish and track design tenets and design and usability requirements.
• Plan, conduct and document user research such as interviews, focus groups, workshops and surveys to understand user needs.
• Iteratively design solutions that satisfy project goals, requirements and design tenets based on research, design patterns and UI standards.
• Plan, conduct and analyze formative and summative usability testing and other user research to validate existing and proposed designs.
• Document and present the findings of research to a variety of different audiences.
