Usability Researcher

We are seeking a User Experience Researcher to join our interdisciplinary team of developers, designers, program managers and researchers contributing to our lab’s portfolio. Ideal candidates must work effectively with team members to set up, conduct, and communicate user research testing and product evaluations in a highly collaborative environment which favors fast experimentation and execution. Highly polished visual and verbal presentation skills are a must, as is passion for our customers and for consumers who want great user experiences. This position demands an individual that is organized, detail-oriented and results-driven.

The ideal candidate will have prior experience developing and executing innovative and proven research methods used to identify, understand, evaluate, and communicate complex software and/or hardware interaction experiences. Driving generative research and leveraging expert and practiced depth of knowledge in cognitive science, applied Human Factors, and interaction design for digital experiences will be critical. Strong skills in inferential statistics are also highly desirable, as well as experience in crafting/contributing to papers for publication to a variety of audiences.
Desired qualifications:
• A minimum of an MA/MS in Experimental Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Human Factors, Human-Computer Interaction or a related field
• Experience designing and running original experimental research on consumer software and hardware products
• Experience in the application of research to the development of interactive systems, information architectures, and UI taxonomies
• Facility for uncovering root causes of good or bad research outcomes: deconstructing interface designs from a system-wide view into meaningful and useful component parts, and demonstrating the significance of each part’s relationship to the other parts, and to the system as a whole
• Demonstrated ability to visualize and present rich research data simply and clearly; to articulate the implications of research finding in clear and compelling generalized models (perceptual/cognitive/behavioral) that illustrate attributes of good solutions
• Strong statistical analysis skills; familiarity with parametric and non-parametric statistics and the various statistical packages used for analysis (SPSS, Statistica, etc.)
• 5+ years of industry experience conducting user research and driving tangible outcomes with product teams
• Ability to work as part of a cross-functional team – design and engineering - with limited supervision
• Strong oral and written communication skills; experience presenting to internal and external executive-level audiences
