UX/UI Developer

The UI/UX Developer collaborates with other developers in designing the flow, interaction, interface, and user experience for websites, web applications, and mobile apps. The UI/UX Developer produces wireframes, task flows, and mock-ups, plans/conducts usability testing, and develops the interface (front-end) code. All work produced will be intuitive, highly-usable, and meet all federal, state, and local accessibility laws as well as industry standard best practices. The UI/UX Developer will assist project management in gathering project requirements, defining scope, and estimating project effort. The developer will also track, evaluate, and report on developments in pertinent tools and technologies of possible interest and value to IT or the University. The developer will also plan/conduct internal sessions for cross-training, and will work to improve internal procedures, processes, communication, knowledge sharing, and mentoring.

The UI/UX Developer role is a member of the Web Team. They also collaborate with the University's Marketing & Communications department providing baseline themes for those who self-publish websites in WordPress, as well as joint projects on custom themes for schools/colleges and other major business units of the University.

This role is on-campus in Boston. Most members of the team take advantage of a flexible schedule to work from home one day per week, on average. Approximately 40 percent of this role is dedicated to designing interfaces and user experiences (including usability/accessibility testing). Approximately 40 percent of this role is development of interfaces (coding) and development/enhancement on the supporting tools and technologies. Approximately 20 percent of this role is dedicated to support, documentation, internal procedures, and professional development.

The UI/UX Developer role requires expert-level skills in HTML, CSS and Javascript. Extensive experience with a Javascript framework is required. Experience with WordPress (open source content management system) is required. Development of WordPress themes and plugins is highly desired. Experience with source control (Git/Github) is required. Expertise in all aspects of accessibility is required.
