UX Strategist

Our client is looking for a User Experience Designer that is both strategic and tactical. This person should be able to thoughtfully contribute in a team environment from a project’s concept development phases through to build. They must also be passionate about expressing interactions through clear, creative and proven user interfaces. This person will be responsible for creating a wide variety of applications for some of the world biggest brands. If you can think of a way to do something, you can make it happen! They also must be comfortable participating in all parts of the user centered design process and creating deliverables at varying levels of fidelity: from quickly communicating a concept’s value proposition to final specifications delivered to a developer. Highly usable creativity, work products that are achievable technically, and steady, supportive team leadership through collaboration are the most important skills.

This person should possess a broad understanding of related deliverables including information architecture artifacts such as interaction flows, wireframes, screen mockups, interactive demos, and UI specifications. The position will require designing websites and applications for many protocols including web, mobile, CMS frameworks, and database driven functionality.

This person will report to the Director of User Experience

Qualifications

o Candidates should have 10+ years of professional experience in User Experience.
o Relevant degree, diploma, or certificate (Product Design, Visual Arts and Design, Interactive/Multimedia design, Industrial Design, or Visual Communication).
o Formal training in flavors of UX Design, Usability or relevant experience.
o Qualified candidates should have led the design of one or more complex applications or services and a have a general understanding of the methods involved, including participatory design, rapid iterative prototyping, and asset optimization and prioritization.
o Digital portfolio demonstrating your accomplishments in the design of applications and user interfaces. Show projects from inception to publication and point to your specific contributions that demonstrate writing, flows, prototypes, user testing experience and functional specifications. Demonstration of your approaches to prototyping and testing.
Specific Skills

o You can build a strategy from user needs, business requirements that is feasible, scalable, and innovative.
o You can express a brand through functionality.
o Have balanced architecture skills (IA and UI), visual design sensibilities and an understanding of how all disciplines must exist together to create experience design solutions.
o Translate high level objectives and requirements into interaction flows and information architecture artifacts including wireframes, state change diagrams, and content distribution models, clickable prototypes and functional specifications.
o An excellent communicator who can express ideas in different mediums. Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
o A fanatical attention to detail and willingness to wade through extensive documentation to find patterns and get answers.
o Experience with user research, both small scale and larger.
o Knowledge of usability principles.
o Knowledge of online coding limitations and capabilities including but not limited to HTML, AJAX, CSS, and JavaScript and relational database structure and behavior.
Additional skills

o Experience with controlled vocabularies, taxonomies and other library science influenced activities is a big plus as long as you manage to be a good mix of left and right brain.
