UX Researcher II

eCommerce client is looking for a motivated user research contractor to work on one of their device platforms. This position will be responsible for designing and conducting user research for one of their upcoming product releases. This research will inform concepts and design direction, help determine measurable and actionable user experience metrics for the various applications, and generally help teams better understand the behavioral usage patterns which users will engage in when using their devices, as well as, anticipate interaction issues. This role will require that you work closely with design and product management for this device. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of user research methods and best practices, experience from designing and shipping applications on large software platforms over several release cycles.

This client is a fast moving organization, and the successful candidate will therefore need to be nimble, creative, and have a pragmatic approach to user research. Experience from working on consumer digital product releases is highly desirable, as this will help the user researcher to prioritize research activities and proactively identify important areas in the designs which will require user research guidance. Due to the fast-moving pace of their releases, and the high-level of ambiguity, experience with heuristic approaches is highly desirable for this role.

Basic Qualifications
· 3-5 years of proven success conducting user research in a large-scale software platform settings, or equivalent.
· A strong portfolio demonstrating past work experience and deliverables (e.g.: study plans, reports).
· A BS or equivalent degree in psychology, cognitive science, Human Factors, Human-Computer Interaction, Human-Centered Design, or similar.
· Extensive experience operating as an individual contributor in a user research role.
· End-to-end experience with all aspects of the user research lifecycle (study design, recruiting, moderation, analysis, reporting, communicating, budgeting research).
· Hands-on experience with: lab-based user testing, remote testing, paper prototype testing, iterative prototype testing, concept testing, field research, international research, and survey design.
· Experience in best practices for user research and knowledge of what approaches work and which don’t.
· The ability to effectively communicate to business, engineering and design stakeholders.
· Excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal and analytical skills; the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and persuasively across different audiences and varying levels of the organization.
· The ability to manage ambiguity, work autonomously and multi-task in an agile environment.
· Ability to meet ambitious deadlines and deliver high-quality work in time.

Preferred Qualifications
· Experience from working in a large and fast paced software development environment of enterprise scale.
· Strong background in software related user research, with demonstrated results.
· Having worked on a variety of digital products or software platform products, preferably consumer products, such as, tablets, smartphones, TV set-top boxes etc.
· A healthy mix of qualitative and quantitative methodologies.
· Good understanding of the software development cycle.
· Experience with agile software development and how user research fits in.
