VT is looking for a Senior Design Researcher to be an engaging and insightful project and team leader! The individual in this role will work closely with the Research and Strategy Directors, and the Studio Creative Director. The ultimate goal is to position our client as an intelligent partner with the ability to deliver strategic recommendations, informed design, and a successful product to our client, as well as creating meaningful user experiences.


REQUIREMENTS (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)

Lead Projects
§ Work with the Directors to establish the visions underlying design research programs through the use of appropriate research, strategy, forecasting, and design implementation tools

§ Work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary design teams, forming a fluid and additive relationship

§ Write detailed research plans including methods, timelines, staffing, equipment and costs; coordinate technology and equipment needs for projects
Coordinate activities of resources on research projects and with contractors, other consulting companies, and client teams
Provide a platform for inspiring and effective teamwork, culturing a collaborative, inclusive and flexible team spirit

§ Use design research and strategy as a tool to inform the design processes

§ Project types include: trend forecasting, brand design, design language direction, product positioning, ethnographic research, lifestyle scenario and visual roadmaps construction, “past-present-future” context maps, future concepting, the effective facilitation of immersive, participatory events as well as providing strategic advice and effective guidance and tools for design implementation


Lead & Communicate Content
Make research relevant to design teams and clients through the provision of strategic recommendations and design tools that help to create better products
Provide aesthetic guidance and thought leadership to design projects.
Translate complex design challenges into inspiring customer friendly experiences.
Communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience
Facilitate idea generation and refinement internally and externally
Share knowledge and practices with research team in Product Studio
Communicate findings into actionable business recommendations

Define Methodology & Offering
Work with Research & Strategy Directors to identify the vision, strategy, and offerings of the group, and define processes and events to support the Studio design team
Define the mix of research methods and build the tools and technologies
Work closely with CEO and leadership team to ensure appropriate profitability of projects and the maintenance of budgets


SKILL SET (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES)

Skills in qualitative research including primary and secondary research methods, analysis of data, and synthesis into design guidelines and concepts
Combination of research, strategy, and industrial design skills, with an emphasis on design planning, methods, theory, philosophy, and visioning
Ability to navigate within the complexity of the Boeing business environment and the product itself
Enthusiastically willing and able to position self, the team, and our client, as thought leaders
