Vitamin T is currently sourcing talent for a UX Researcher to work with a reputable digital publishing company in the metro Detroit area. This is a contract opportunity with the possibility of being contract-to-hire for the right person.

The UX Researcher is a skilled specialist in strategies and techniques for researching and strategizing engaging, attractive, intuitive and useful products for learning. The UX Researcher collaborates with product managers and software development managers, as well as a variety of stakeholders, to research and design a new generation of online products that exceed instructor and student expectations in engagement and in learning.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
• Drive end user research and concept development including contextual inquiries, persona and scenario development, and ideation sessions.
• Influence product managers and software development managers to use research findings and other sources to develop, refine, and prioritize product requirements.
• Participate in recruitment activities for user research participants including: developing criteria, creating screeners, connecting with potential participants, tracking status, preparing materials, and arranging for incentives.
• Assess product needs and direct team resources efficiently, while building a sense of teamwork.
• Advocate for the end user in design and development, while working with product managers, business analysts, UI designers, and Agile developers.
• Know how and when to leverage research and testing to inform design decisions. Collaborate on mockups, wire frames, and clickable prototypes for rapid, iterative testing and design improvement. Continue testing during development.

Skills/Knowledge/Experience:
• 5+ years as a key member of a user-experience design team participating in the complete product development lifecycle of successfully launched digital products or applications
• Knowledge and experience in ethnographic user research (contextual inquiry preferred), usability, and UX design methods with a focus on human-computer interaction for digital products. Learning-related products are a plus.
• Experience working with end-users, customers, product management, and developers. Communicate very well verbally and enjoy conversing with people.
• Ability to guide a multifunctional team and to adapt to changes in business, product, organization, or individual needs.
• Very well organized and demonstrated ability to organize the work of team members
• Expertise working in iterative design and research cycles in conjunction with Agile development.
• Clear understanding of usability and web standards
• Degree in Interaction Design, Graphic Design, HCI, Psychology, or equivalent discipline (or document equivalent academic plus professional experience)
• User-experience portfolio showing examples of design direction, creative process, research strategy, or equivalent user-experience accomplishment
• Familiarity with Cengage markets in education is a plus. Familiarity with instructional design is a plus.
