UX Research Assistant

​Project Overview:
This client group is an interdisciplinary team of UX researchers, designers, and UX engineers that try to uncover user insights and translate them into design guidelines that are applicable across multiple teams. One of the team’s projects is to build out a team and process for innovating on design solutions based on these cross-product user insights. The roles we are hiring are UX research assistants to work closely with a team of UX research, design, and engineering to conduct rapid prototyping and evaluation of new design concepts.

Overall Responsibilities:
Support UX design innovation by conducting research to understand the design landscape for each design topic, summarizing existing research when possible.
Help frame and scope design challenges by synthesizing existing research on the topic.
Develop both qualitative and quantitative method(s) for evaluating new design and interactive prototype concepts. Analyze data and report back to the team.
Build research narratives/reports to communicate concepts and findings.

Top 3 Daily Responsibilities:
Conduct competitive analysis, design audits, and literature reviews to ground design explorations. Collaborate closely with designers and engineers to scope problem space and brainstorm ideas.
Develop and execute on effective research methods for evaluating new concepts and interactive prototypes.
Create clear research narratives/presentations to communicate findings for cross-functional audiences.

Required Skills:
B.A./B.S. (completed) or M.A/M.S./Ph.D. (in progress or completed) in HCI/Computer Science, Applied Statistics, Cognitive Science, Experimental Psychology, Information Science or other fields emphasizing applied data analysis
3-5 years experience and confidence with qualitative and quantitative UX research methods.
Strong understanding of strengths and shortcomings of different research methods, including when and how to apply them during each product phase.
Excellent working knowledge of statistics and the principles of experiment design.
Excellent leadership, communication and teamwork skills.
The ability operate in a very fast-paced environment.
Detail-oriented and ability to work independently on a variety of tasks.
Strong oral, written, and visual communication skills.
Able to provide a sample of a research presentation.

Nice to Have Skills/Not Required:
Fluency in a programming language commonly used for data manipulation and data visualization (Any spreadsheets program, Matlab, R, Python).
Interest in data visualization, research communications, and storytelling.
Appreciation and interest in UI visual and interactive design work.
