UX Research & Interaction Design Lead

Our client, a large Oil & Gas company, is looking for a UX Researcher and Interaction Design Lead to work on a new internal Upstream Application. Although this person will be dedicated to the new software, they will also be part a larger Upstream UX Team who works on highly technical applications (such as 3D reservoir simulators, seismic processing applications, geologic modeling and drilling softwares) that typically have very challenging data visualization problems.

This person will have the opportunity to work on researching and designing a brand new product, so the ideal candidate will have a passion for user centered design and will want to design & build software that intimately understands the workflows that the scientists and engineers do every day. They will have access to a small usability lab on site where they can test new software and paper prototypes, and will have the unique advantage of having the users on site for easy access.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Visualize ideas using professional design tools as well as sticky notes, sketch boards, white-board markers or whatever tools are necessary to rapidly work through research and ideation and move to the next stage
• Plan, conduct and synthesize generative and evaluative research using standard methodologies and outputs including: personas, stakeholder interviews, contextual inquires, field studies, customer journey mapping, service blueprints, mental models, task analysis, card sorting, usability tests, cognitive walk-throughs, expert reviews, customer satisfaction monitoring, focus groups, brand audits, and competitive analysis.
• Drive the design of next generation, navigation schemes, design patterns, components and templates, insuring a consistent, appealing, intuitive user experience.
• As you move from concepts to more detailed designs, create low and high fidelity prototypes that allow you to collaborate and quickly iterate ideas with the project team and get designs in front of end-users for validation.
• Create final design documentation, sometimes using Lean UX, but heavier documentation may be required at times. Deliverables might include prototypes, wireframes, flow diagrams, constellation maps, and detailed design specs, style guides.

EXPERIENCE
• Significant experience in interactive design and information architecture, with experience working through the product development
• Excellent skills in Data Visualization and experience working on highly-technical applications
• Strong ability to communicate your design, defend your design decisions, and respond quickly to business needs
• Extremely detail oriented, flexible to change, high tolerance for ambiguity and self-motivated
• Knowledge and understanding of ArcGIS is beneficial but not required.
