UX Manager

Our Portland-based client is seeking a collaborative and highly motivated UX Manager to join their effort to raise the bar on their sales application platform. They are looking for someone with the ability and desire to create highly functional and visibly appealing experiences in key areas. As a UX Manager, your job is to make sure that their products and services are intuitive, accessible and usable to users. You will have a unique opportunity to work on software experiences that enable their enterprise to power productivity, strategic decision-making and product presentation in new and innovative ways through software tools. Your role will be key in helping to define and enhance their applications and drive strategic thinking around software design and digital solutions.

As an individual who will work across teams you’ll need to have a broad skillset and experience with working with a variety of stakeholders to help build consensus, share your expertise with others using a consultative approach and drive results following established processes within a large organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

UX Strategy
Help create the best experience for their users by bringing to the forefront relevant UX strategy methodologies and approaches that define useful, relevant and practical solutions to their product teams. This includes:
• Consult with product owners to create the best UX and related UI/IX strategies for improving usability and cohesion of all software applications.
• Provide ongoing UX, UI and IX usability assessments with an eye towards offering solutions that fit technical and budget constraints.
• Facilitate working sessions and provide thought leadership to build user flows, mental models and task flows for a variety of software experiences.
• Partner with other UX Leads, Design resources (agency and in-house), Application Product Owners and Technical Leads to design new or enhance existing experiences.
• Ensure design and UX Strategy decisions adhere to industry best practices and align to consumer expectations throughout the product lifecycle.
• Act as a user experience evangelist within diversely skilled product teams and a catalyst for positive change.
• Regularly research and analyze competitor experiences, industry innovations and best practices.
• Design UX strategies that conform to the constraints of established third-party software applications and tools as well as completely custom built software implementations.
• Provide UX solution approaches for software that are flexible and offer multiple options including idealized future-state concepts as well as near-term, practical guidance.

Project Process
As a UX Manager, you will help drive projects from inception to completion with an eye towards achieving results on time and within defined budgets. This includes:
• Author approach and plan documentation that helps to surface key business strategies, opportunities and problem statements of existing and future software experiences within Global Sales.
• Analyze requests by key stakeholders for new feature enhancements to the various digital experiences.
• Write creative project briefs that define goals, scope, context and requirements that are used by external vendors and internal teams to estimate budgets and timelines.
• Help to manage project timelines and work with Project Managers to define schedules for UX and UI Design deliverables that meet existing program timelines.
• Participate in meetings, discussions, and other analysis efforts with core product teams to completely understand the use cases and business strategies that will make projects successful.


Consulting
They are looking for a person who has a keen interest in working with a variety of their team members on a daily basis to provide ideas, foster user-centered design thinking and help educate and persuade others the value of User Experience. This includes:
• Build ongoing professional relationships across global sales teams in both business and tech disciplines.
• Communicate effectively through example documents, templates and presentations the value of UX Strategy and Project Planning best practices.
• Communicate experience enhancements and priorities across Business and Software Development stakeholders.
• Help to drive consensus across a variety of stakeholders and negotiate diverse points of view and priorities.



QUALIFICATIONS:
• A passion for User Experience and building best-in-class documentation that effectively communicate UX, UI and IX strategies.
• A clear understanding of the differences in UX and UI strategies applied to direct-to-consumer websites and applications vs. business-to-business software experiences.
• Experience working within the software development lifecycle end-to-end including project inception to final user-facing software.
• Strong background in consulting approaches and methodologies to influence and drive results across diverse teams.
• Creative visual skillset able to translate complex technical and business concepts into easy-to-understand communication pieces is preferred.
• Process driven and strong interpersonal skills, careful attention to detail, and skills in driving consensus and issue resolution.
• Experience defining and monitoring success through analytics/metrics.
• Experience working collaboratively across different skillsets and points of view.
• Excellent user experience intuition; demonstrated success in creating innovative and user-friendly websites and customer-facing features.
• Excellent communication, presentation and persuasion skills demonstrated success building buy-in for an innovative and innovative and bold strategic vision.
• Comprehend multiple device types and contexts (desktop, tablet, mobile) and responsive designs for the web.
• Deep understanding of user motivations, market opportunities and competition through research and testing.
• Experience working within the B2B Software space a plus.
• Familiarity with current agile software development best practices and methodologies.
• Experience establishing baseline ROI targets and managing and analyzing analytics through third-party tools like Omniture.


ADDITIONAL PROFICIENCIES:
• Expert at building dynamic presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint.
• Strong Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator skillset.
• Ability to design interface concepts and wireframes using both sketching techniques and digital illustration tools.
• Familiar with formal user research and usability testing lab methodologies.
• Excellent writing and communications experience preferred.

Please note this is a 2-3 month contract to start with a strong likelihood of extending to a year.
