UX Lead

We’re working with a global consulting client to find a UX Lead to join their team on high-visibility, high impact work. This is a hands-on, client-facing role. Projects include user centric design solutions for web-based applications in the federal space.

Start Date: As soon as the right candidate is found
Location: Onsite at client's office in Fairfax, VA or Baltimore, MD. Some travel required to customer sites.
Duration: Ongoing, long term
Hours: 40 per week
Type: Contract; W2 through Aquent

In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to help revolutionize the user experience of a major website (2MM monthly visits) and data system. (Think: a significant addition to your portfolio and an opportunity for a big data project!) You'll also work on site/application enhancements and releases.

• Responsible for research and design efforts for web based information architecture and interaction design.
• Work with SMEs and client stakeholders to develop strategies and specifications to improve the performance, usability and effectiveness of user interfaces.
• Using a user centered design approach, synthesize information gathered from client meetings, team collaboration, best practices, heuristic analysis and competitive analyses to develop site maps and user interface diagrams to illustrate the layout, flow and organization of websites and web enabled applications.
• Facilitate usability testing and help determine how best to integrate these findings into the site architecture and the user interface.

• Ability to be highly collaborative with cross-functional teams.
• Experience with application design (non-static sites), content strategy and content management systems.
• Ability to partner with BA and TA SMEs and client stakeholders to gather functional requirements based on existing business processes, goals and user needs.
• Experience with user story grooming.
• Strong working knowledge of user experience deliverables including strategy an analysis documents, prototypes and UI specifications.
• Hands on design of navigation, interaction, nomenclature systems and UI diagrams including flows, wireframes and sitemaps.
• Experience with usability testing including writing screeners and scripts, running focus groups, facilitating card sorting, survey and remote session testing.
• Understanding of front end technologies including CSS3, HTML5, jQuery UI, and other evolving interface standards to assist in design.
• Understanding of Responsive Design and supporting frameworks such as BootStrap.
• Experience with large scale custom applications and CMS projects.
• Knowledge of usability best practices and accessibility issues, including 508 compliance, WCAG AA and ARIA.
• Able to present wireframes, prototypes, and ideas to a client in a comprehensive, accessible, and engaging way.
• Healthcare industry experience is a plus, but not a must-have.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Strong practical thinking skills.
• Strong problem solving and organizational skills.
