UX Director

The Experience Design Director (UX Director) will be responsible for driving a vision for how experiences should be designed for mobile & digital guest services for a large international hospitality company. The UX Director will manage of a team responsible for creating new product concepts and capabilities.

This role will work primarily on a small Agile team, where fast-paced, iterative product discovery and execution are your daily bread and butter. Collaborating constantly, trying new things and gaining quick user feedback, you’ll work with cross-functional team members to break solutions into small chunks implementable in individual sprints. Your experience vision is key to keeping the product on track and cohesive with the rest of the site. Specific contributions and expectations of the UX Director are listed below:

• Provide creative leadership and coaching to team members in an iterative process of concept development, prototyping, and gathering user and business feedback
• Working collaboratively with other UX leaders to develop the experience design practice, and promoting best practices and user-centered design approaches
• Championing the creation and iteration of design strategies
• Help teams define a product’s problem areas from our most important users’ perspective
• Aligning your decisions with high-level organizational strategies, KPIs, and business objectives
• Staying on top of the latest techniques being used by our direct competitors and other eCommerce sites, and identify strategic opportunities for competitive advantages through benchmarking, consumer insight, market analysis, and other techniques.
• Basing decisions on site metrics and user research findings and insights using multiple qualitative and quantitative research methods and instruments, like surveys, usability testing, multivariate testing, and A/B testing

PORTFOLIO REQUIREMENTS:
Must Be Able to Present a Portfolio that reflects the following:
• Advanced skills and experience in interaction design
• Advanced techniques in Information Architecture
• Experience in basic techniques and understanding of Content Strategy
• Writing Skills that show accurate, compelling copy that clearly conveys the key messages to the target audience, and reflects the governing content strategy
• Mid-level skills in graphic design and prototyping
• Branding for National and Global Brands
• Product Pages – reflecting expertise at creating digital experiences that communicate product benefits and attributes

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Must have at least a Bachelor’s Degree in Experience or Interaction Design, Graphic Design, Information Architecture, or a related field. Master’s degree a plus.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
• 5+ years of experience in experience design including large transactional e-commerce and content-focused web sites.
• Have a current understanding of web technologies and principles— like responsive design, front-end markup and libraries such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery and Ajax methods, plus Content Management Systems, Web Services, and APIs—and know how they’re integrated and used
• Experience leading work and managing a successful team of direct reports
• Experience setting and meeting realistic deadlines
• Understanding of how to balance user, business and technical needs and will go to bat for users if required
• Thrive on creating innovative solutions to challenging user and business problems
• Understand the blurry line between skills, and use collaboration as the best way to deal with it
• Have superior communication and interpersonal skills, including strong facilitation, presentation, storytelling, sketching and critiquing skills
• Knows how to establish successful long-term relationships across an organization and influence others
• Inspire confidence and lead through example
