UX Designer - Phone

The candidate will be part of a team that is responsible for extending and evolving the functionality of our phone. We're looking for someone who is passionate about mobile, forward-thinking and willing to challenge and provoke new ways to connect with our consumers. This position requires strong UI design, communication and organization skills, and the ability to work across multidisciplinary teams. You'll also be expected to quickly broaden your technical understanding as new technologies become available. A deep understanding of our customers and a passion for creating great mobile product experiences is a must!

The candidate will work closely with a team of UI designers, user researchers, design managers, brand marketers and software engineers in a highly collaborative environment. Your main areas of focus include all the ways we communicate and interact with — and stay connected to — the people we care about on our phone.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Translate customer and business needs and technical capabilities into dynamic, innovative UI designs that provide the best possible user experience across multiple devices and languages.
• Inspire and collaborate with program managers and design leadership to develop goals, user task analysis, interaction flows, wireframes, low fidelity mock-ups, and high fidelity prototypes.
• Both independently and co-present designs to cross-functional teams and negotiate trade-offs.
• Work closely with team leadership to manage project deliverables, ensuring milestones are met, tracking UI/Usability issues, and making design recommendations.
• Manage the production of final designs from approval through the creation of design specifications and working code.
• Participate in user research and usability testing to help improve the product through every stage of the product life-cycle.
• Contribute to the design culture, promoting user-centered design processes while supporting the studio's creative vision and brand design assets.

QUALIFICATIONS
• BA degree in Visual Communication Design, Interaction Design, or equivalent education and experience.
• 2+ years of experience in user interface design for consumer product and web experiences.
• Passion for creating simple, playful, and seamless product experiences.
• Web portfolio that demonstrates strong interactive, graphic design and typography skills.
• Expert proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop with an attention to detail.
• Demonstrated ability to strategically solve problems.
• Exceptional presentation, written and verbal communication skills and the ability to articulate design rationale.
• Strong project management and organizational skills.
• An open-minded, creative and human-centered approach to problem solving.
• A strong interest in design and technology trends. Familiar with current mobile design paradigms.
• The ability to work both collaboratively — and independently — within a multidisciplinary team.
