A fun-loving, creative shop located in McLean, VA is looking for a UX Design Manager to join their team. They need someone who’s committed to creating a phenomenal customer experience, can build, manage, and mentor a team of talented UX Designers, and enjoys designing highly interactive experiences that achieve measurable results. In this role, you’ll cultivate a team of UX Designers who craft the innovative experience that helps millions of users design and buy custom t-shirts online. You’ll also work directly as an individual contributor on a small, agile product team, working closely with a passionate group of product managers, engineers, and other designers to turn conceptual product ideas into elegant experiences for our users, leveraging customer research and insights all along the way.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
As the User Experience Design Manager, you will:
- Manage and mentor a team of 3-5 user experience designers
- Establish standards for consistency across the companies online experience
- Identify and promote best practices for user research and user experience design within our agile teams
- Turn conceptual product and feature ideas into valuable and useful experiences for our users
- Design and test prototypes of new site experiences with users through small-scale usability tests and live on-site experiments
- Incorporate feedback from user testing, site analytics, group critiques and other sources to continually improve designs
- Lead the development of persona's, user flows and scenarios, goal/task analyses, and other key tools of user-centered design
- Contribute to product vision and strategic decisions in collaboration with other team members and stakeholders

MEASURES OF SUCCESS:
The key measures of success for this position are:
- The growth and continued development of the UX Design team
- Delivering smart, elegant flows and experiences that meet user needs and achieve business results
- Effective collaboration with other team members throughout the project life-cycle, including presenting designs and communicating the rationale behind them
- Articulating key insights about users that shape the design process

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
As a User Experience Design Manager, you have to love delighting customers, and collaboratively solving complicated business and interaction challenges. Candidates should also have:
- A strong portfolio (urls preferred) featuring your interaction design work
- Ability to move fluidly from thinking about high-level product strategy down to low-level details (and everything in-between!)
- Great understanding of design heuristics and techniques of user-centered design
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially the ability to clearly articulate your design decisions
- Strong coaching and mentoring skills
- Ability to leverage technology to create innovative experiences and adapt designs to consider technical limitations
- Excellent knowledge of design tools like Visio/Omnigraffle, Adobe Creative Suite, and similar
- Ability to develop working prototypes (either in working code or in tools like Axure or PowerPoint) is also strongly desirable
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Human Factors, Design, Computer Science or a related field
- At least 2-3 years of experience as a hands-on practitioner of UX design.
- Prior experience in consumer online services, retail or e-commerce is highly desirable
