UX Design Consultant

We are seeking a talented consultant to support our client’s Direct to Consumer product offering. You will work on the design of a consumer-driven, “guided sell” application housed within an E-commerce site and integrated with Federal and State Marketplace/Exchange. You will work closely with business partners to define requirements, communicate technical specifications and oversee development. In this role, you will be responsible for tracking all project timelines, financials and resources, both external and internal, while delivering timely communications to senior management.

Our client will allow a remote designer, as long as that person can drive to Hartford 1-2 times every 2 weeks for in-office meetings.

You must be well experienced in all aspects of web application design including information design, site design and page design and development. We are looking for a hands-on engineer who enjoys working in a fast paced environment. The job entails taking user-provided details and applying artistic abilities to design and craft a web experience that is pleasing to the eye and functional. The tasks for this position require the use of creativity and technical ingenuity to solve problems. Associated activities include requirements development, research and analysis, site architect and design, artwork development, site production and testing. You will need to create web applications for maximum usability and be passionate about developing visually appealing and interactive graphical user interfaces.

Key Responsibilities:
Interact with business analysts and developers on a technical level to determine project scope and specifications

Create wireframes, visual designs and HTML mock ups

Conduct research, design, and create dynamic web application pages using tools such as Photoshop, HTML5 and content management systems

Define, monitor and report on site traffic, and key performance indicators, using a variety of analytic programs such as WebTrends and Google Analytics

Manage the design and development of Stand Alone product builds, such as microsites, portals and mobile experiences, to increase user engagement/adoption and improve the brand's affinity across all platforms (e.g. mobile)

Oversee usability testing and focus group surveys to develop future site releases, enhancements, product features while optimizing customer experience

Reduce site abandonments by understanding and overcoming pain points on the site and prioritize enhancements based on ROI and business goals

Work with clients to create ideas for projects and explore and document customer requirements

Develop page layouts that maintain a usable flow through the system while capturing logical placement for all of the client’s content

Research and promote tools and techniques that may enhance front-end performance or user experience e.g. useful JavaScript libraries or 3rd party plug-ins

Desired Qualifications:

Strong communication and negotiation skills when interfacing with both the client and the internal team members

Able to drive meetings and diplomatically steer clients towards good solutions

Knowledgeable about current web best practices and able to clearly demonstrate client’s expertise in developing elegant websites and mobile experience

Understands enough about programming and front-end coding practices to identify major problems and pitfalls

Familiar with user-centered design practices and usability testing

Able to juggle multiple projects and clients at a time

Has this Experience - Must-Haves

Prior experience as an information architect, business analyst, interaction designer or similar role

Bachelors degree in a relevant field

Able to travel for on-site client meetings up to 20%

Proven experience in crafting elegant solutions on the web through a strong portfolio of sample work

Strong knowledge of web technologies (i.e. HTML 5). Fluency with standard design software tools (Photoshop) required

Ability to understand and integrate customer needs and motivations into specific areas of product design to contribute to user features and functionality

Agency experience

Familiarity with enterprise level content management systems (e.g. Autonomy)

Strong interaction design and web technology skills

Strong knowledge or experience with database served websites

Experience working with rich client or web applications
