Technical Writer III

Would you like to join a team focused on producing high-quality technical publications for developers, testers, UI designers, and others? As a Senior Technical Writer in the Consumer Shopping team – the central UX team behind our “core” website - you will work with a stellar team to produce product documentation, style guides and training content in a cross-functional environment.

In this role, you would be the central voice educating internal teams on the best practices of developing technical features, plus user interface, for web and mobile devices (iPad, iPhone, Android, Windows Phone 7 and others) by authoring actionable dev & test How-To’s and design guides.

The ideal candidate would have created:

- A conceptual walk-through or an overview document that introduces a concept to the reader and walks the reader though the concept details.
- A “how to” document which walks a user through a series of steps (troubleshooting steps, installation guide, etc.)
- API reference document (e.g. SDK documentation)

If you‘re comfortable creating technical documentation in a fast-paced, exciting environment, with people who are exhilarated by quickly shifting project priorities, this is the position for you! You must be agile, flexible, and able to succeed within an open collaborative peer environment. Experience with mobile devices, mobile applications and UX is a plus.

Key Responsibilities:

- Be the ultimate information architect. Own the entire documentation set, including architecture, writing, editing, testing, and deployment.
- Continuously gather information from Business Development, Product Management, QA, and Support to produce best practices and react to the needs of developers.
- Establish content quality metrics and ratings, drive increase in content satisfaction.
- Evaluate documentation gaps and drive content creation. Document API’s, SDK’s, provide guidance to technical audiences like developers, testers and Q&A for deliver UI and front end features. Ensure successful content consumption and a feedback loop from stakeholders.

Basic Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in English, Technical Communications and/or extensive prior writing experience.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to work with many stakeholders and partner teams at the same time.
- Strong self-starter able to analyze requirements, develop strategy, improve process and deliver results with little ongoing guidance, often in highly ambiguous situations and “version 1.0” projects.
- Familiarity with a modern programming language, such as Java, C, or PHP; experience with web technologies, including JavaScript, CSS and HTML (CSS3 and HTML5 ideal).
- Strong attention to detail and passion for quality.
- 6+ years of professional experience, including 4+ years of experience writing SDK documentation for a developer audience, in a technical writing or lead writing role.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience working directly with an engineering team.
- Great eye for usability and judgment for when and how to leverage graphical solutions to convey information. Basic Visio, Photoshop or Dreamweaver experience a plus.
- Prior HCI, UX/UI background or solid foundation in UX design and user experience. Experience of working in a UX team ideal.
