The Content Manager – Product Definition will be responsible for all Technical writing of product & feature descriptions, user workflow and copy to support our clients Product Lifecycle and Product Launch processes. The role will support the tech writing and tech descriptions for all hardware products including user manuals, quick start guides and contribute to other customer facing documents & scripts. This individual will also be responsible for contributing to the strategies and requirements for our long-product and feature documentation strategy and support the implementation of the strategy. This role will regularly interface with cross functional teams including Product Management (HW/SW), Creative, Marketing, Program Management, Operations, Legal, Support, Engineering, and Finance.

Description

Title: Content Manager, Hardware Products – Camera and reports to: Director of Product Management, Core Products

The Position

The Content Manager – Product Definition will be responsible for all technical writing and product & feature technical descriptions and copy to support the Product Lifecycle Process. The role will support the tech writing and tech descriptions for all hardware products including user manuals, quick start guides and contribute to other customer facing documents & scripts. The role will also act as a resource for functions in creating product and process scripts for customer facing material and ensure that instructions and descriptions are accurate and to the our clients style guide. The Content Manager will ensure that technical descriptions and product usage steps are accurate through software and product revisions throughout the product life. This individual will also champion descriptions that best inform the user how to derive the best experience from the product in supported use cases. The Content Manager will also champion methods to improve the out-of-box experience and the capture, create, manage and share process for our client through written, symbolic and descriptive communication. This individual will also be responsible for contributing to the strategies and requirements to develop and implement our long-product and feature user manual strategy. The Content Manager will regularly interface with cross functional teams including Product Management (HW/SW), Creative, UX, Marketing, Program Management, Operations, Legal, Support, Engineering, and Finance to ensure documents and descriptions are clear, accurate and aligned with our clients Style Guide and Brand.

Key Position Accountabilities

· Generate clear, accurate descriptions of our clients Hardware product features, functions and operation

· Champion of simple, effective written and symbolic description that accurately describes product use to deliver the best capture, create, manage and share experience

· Work in a fast paced environment comprised of a cross functional team with creative, marketing, UX, engineering, program management, operations, media and brand through the complete product development and product launch cycle.

· Manage tradeoffs involving feature description, length, style, cost and schedule

· Act the key point of contact with the UX team, Creative team, Marketing, Product Management, Support, and Operations early in the design phases to ensure future product usage is understood and described accurately Identify opportunities for improving the customer experience

· Identify key opportunities to improve our customer facing product manuals and guides

· Evaluate new technologies and mediums for communicating product usage, messaging and customer information and provide recommendations for implementing new tools and processes

· Collect global customer, partner and internal company requirements for future product usage descriptions and approaches

· Attain expert knowledge of competitive and 3rd Party solutions and products

· Participate in events, forums and participate in research projects to gain insight into new methods and world class practices in communicating customer products usage content

Requirements:

-Ability to clearly document product use instructions to enable customers to achieve the best user experience with our clients products and services.

-Ability to work within the our clients style and brand guidelines to ensure consistency in communication is maintained with all content created

-Self-starter with the ability to manage to a schedule ensuring that dependencies and deliverables are managed to effectively and content is delivered accurately and on-time

-Ability to accept and implement ideas from others, flexible to change

-Detail oriented, with high attention to accuracy and used to working in a fast paced environment

-Capable of leading and facilitating meetings to gather inputs from key stakeholders

-Work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary, cross functional team

-Ability to collaborate with internal and external groups to regularly improve the content that is produced and to investigate new approaches in communicating product use


Qualifications

· 5+ years’ experience in Technical Writing, preferably in a consumer electronics HW environment

· BS/BA degree in English, Communications, Technical discipline or related field of study

· Proven successful track record of creating written content, user manuals, guides and product feature descriptions

· Must have experience with writing clear and accurate product usage descriptions

· Results and deadline driven: must be willing to do whatever it takes and spend whatever time it takes to meet deadlines

· Be detail oriented and have the passion and dedication to work in a dynamic and exciting team environment
