Technical writers communicate complex information clearly, concisely and accurately, and without relying on jargon. As a technical writer, your role involves tasks such as writing conceptual overviews and procedures, reading and reviewing example code, or updating help center queries and FAQs. Technical writers play a big part at this tech giant. They are a key link between engineers, marketing associates, product management, as well as all the external partners, tying together many vital but disparate parts of the ecosystem.
As a Technical Writer working on content security, you will support some of the world's most popular device platforms. You will communicate with hundreds of thousands of OEMs and content providers worldwide through conceptual documentation, detailed guides, code samples, API references, and other online materials. You might have a background as a developer, and write as a hobby; or perhaps you're an experienced communicator who loves digging deep into code. One thing is for certain - you are passionate about helping developers do amazing things.

Responsibilities
- Learn complex technical information and write technical documentation for Google engineers, such as architectural overviews, tutorials for software developers, API programming guides, and more.
- Respond to questions from engineers about the subject matter that you documented.
- Edit documents written by others; coach engineers to improve their writing skills.
- Develop tools and processes to automate document creation and maintenance.
- Write technical documentation for an external audience, such as API reference docs and developer guides.
- Design and organize documentation sets for new APIs and Standards-based content security products.
- Edit, clarify, and proofread documents written by others
- Manage complex documentation projects.

Minimum qualifications
BA/BS degree or equivalent practical experience.
2 years of relevant experience, such as technical writing, product documentation, or online publishing including experience with writing technical customer-facing materials.
Experience working with engineering and product management teams as part of the software development process.
Experience reading and understanding source code written in Java, C++.
Familiarity with HTML5, open web standards and video codecs.

Preferred qualifications
- 4 years of relevant work experience, including experience researching and writing excellent documentation for both technical and non-technical audiences (APIs, SDKs, product documentation, web technologies).
- Proficiency with HTML and CSS.
- Ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment.
- Experience working directly within a software development team, including extensive interaction with senior engineers.
