Our team needs an experienced UX writer to deliver UI text for all flavors of clients. This is an individual contributor role with writing, leadership, evangelism, and significant scope-of-influence duties.

In this role, you’ll use your critical and strategic thinking skills to help design products that enhance customers’ lives and benefit the enterprise. You’ll partner daily with program management, design, research, and development to ensure that your team creates an easy-to-use and emotionally compelling experience. You’ll also work one-on-one with PM and interaction designers to develop product and feature scenarios, reshape and refine task flows, and use minimum words, both in display and audio, to convey maximum meaning.

And you’ll help find new and strategic ways to deliver UI text across clients that are in diverse engineering environments.

• Has the professional confidence and experience to evangelize the importance of language in the overall user experience
• Loves solving UI problems with words, messages, concept reduction, info design, and IA
• Can solve problems with words across a system or taxonomy
• Has the creativity and collaborative nature of an agency copywriter and the drive and organization of a PM

Role requirements:
• Ability to collaborate across diverse groups and work closely and harmoniously with immediate workgroup of writers, designers, and feature teams
• Outstanding creative and technical writing, info design, and IA skills
• Proven ability to apply information architecture and UI design principles
• Experience in user-centered product design, including creating, reshaping, and refining task flows
• Experience with acting in an effective, professional manner on often-contradictory feedback with diverse groups
• Proven interaction/UI text experience— minimum number of words to convey maximum meaning
• Proven ability to define appropriate style and voice for UI text, ability to norm tone across a group
• Passion for working in an interdisciplinary environment to solve complex UI design problems
• 2 to 5 years professional creative writing experience for the web or tech industry; 2 to 5 years UI text writing experience for major products; experience shipping UI text in at least one major software product; Microsoft program management or project management experience preferred
• Portfolio review of UI text and creative writing samples will be required. Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English/creative writing, advertising copywriting, playwriting, or screenwriting preferred.
