We are working with a government services company that provides government agencies with high-quality, impartial research and analytical tools to inform their decision-making. This Technical Writer will work on user specifications writing projects and business documentation (e.g. proposal, memo writing, memorandum of understanding composition). It’s not the typical user guide tech model writing role. This is a great/cool opportunity for someone who get a hybrid experience of technical and business writing under their belt!
Regarding onboarding/ramp up: Starts with template-based documentation. Ongoing tasks that need to be maintained are based on this template. First task is to revise template with your manager as they see fit before diving into client deliverables. This makes it easier for a person to dig deeper with knowing what they need to do to modify the template. Custom projects are driven internally rather than by clients. You'll work with IT for documentation templates so it’s ongoing and streamlined for new content.
Must have experience in:
-Writing user support materials for client products (largely federal gov agencies)
-Writing technical specifications for systems
-Research oriented, curious, interested in solving complex problems
-Ability to think outside of the box when it comes to tech writing
-1-5 years of writing experience, with a passion for superb writing and rhetoric
Nice to have:
-Business documentation writing that includes proposal writing and memo reporting, or an interest in writing business documentation
-Looking to further develop technical writing abilities and define career, or strong interest, in public policy
-Proposal documentation for RFPs for future technical systems; business angle and interest at minimum in writing business documentation
**Must provide resume/portfolio that demonstrates above criteria, plus technical writing samples (5-10 pages or less preferred)!
