Technical Writer

We are recruiting a Technical Writer and Trainer for a position in our fast growing organization that will last a minimum of six months. Location is in Washington DC.
You will become a deep product expert with the National Council’s CRM and work closely with internal business owners, subject matter experts, project team members and vendors to
understand, document and video capture our applications. You will document our Microsoft Customer Relationship Management (CRM) features for both administrators and end-users by creating administrative user guides and
training guides, as well as end-user guides and training guides. Guides will include overviews of the CRM, detailed click-through documentation for business specific functionality and system guides. End-user documentation will include best practices for accomplishing industry-specific business processes in the CRM applications. You will work directly with departments, partners and customers training them online or in person to effectively use CRM applications.
You are experienced and comfortable working within project teams and with engineers, product managers and partners at all stages of the product development/deployment lifecycle. Prior
experience working with Microsoft CRM cloud software or similar CRM applications and industry expertise in non-profit, membership-based organizations are big pluses.
You are a star communicator who can connect with multiple audiences on various levels employing creative responses to complex technical problems. You think visually and venture
outside the box to effectively and seamlessly combine solid technical writing skills with graphics, design, marketing techniques, even humor to engage users and overcome barriers to
learning. We believe that design is an integral part of documentation and you will work closely with our on-staff graphic designer from the first stages of the design process through implementation.


 Work closely with project team members, vendors and internal business owners to create,

update and revise administrator and end-user documentation for our CRM.

 Develop training materials, including documentation, presentations and videos for

multiple audiences.

 Create videos or other training resources to augment documentation.

 Administer training to partners, departments and end-users.

 Document Microsoft CRM basic system architecture and integrations and interfaces.

 Manage documentation updates in accordance with product release schedules.


 U.S. work permit required.

 Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.

 At least 3 years’ experience in technical writing, documentation or training, or similar

technical background or experience.

 Experience in a project team administration and/or deploying the Microsoft CRM

applications, or a similar leading CRM application is a big plus.

 Ability to translate technical solutions and product features into online training and


 Experience with online training applications.

 Proven ability to collaborate and build strong relationships with colleagues at the

contributor, department and executive levels.

 Industry experience in non-profit organizations preferred.

 Excellent leadership, communication and teamwork skills.

 Experience in small, agile teams.

 Must enjoy the “young company challenge.”
