Technical Training Specialist / Instructional Designer

The Technical Training Specialist is a software engineering and technical expert. This person understands the technical aspects of implementing and managing the client's learning platform and will rapidly learn how to implement, manage and develop applications for the platform. That understanding will be communicated to internal personnel in the client's Services and Support divisions, as well as to the client's customers and partners, through on-line course ware as well as via in-person training.

This is a contract position initially budgeted for three months, with the possibility of extension. The Technical Training Specialist will work off-site, but will be expected to attend client meetings on-site as needed. Aquent Studios will provide equipment.

Essential Responsibilities

Training Content Development:

  • Work independently to acquire knowledge of product features from documentation, development specifications, Program Managers, and Services and Support personnel
  • Develop a deep understanding of product features and tools by working through implementation and application development scenarios in a virtual machine environment
  • Organize and present technical features to technical and non-technical learners
  • Work with Engineering, Services and Documentation teams to understand product features
  • Work with Services and Support teams to understand how product features are implemented and supported
  • Validate training content created by others
  • Collaborate with instructional designers and program managers to create learning objects such as presentation materials, facilitator guides, student guides, online labs and courses
  • Develop Resource Guides to evangelize the resources available for being successful with the client's products
  • Write Knowledge Base (KB) articles related to product features and defects


Training Delivery:
  • Facilitate monthly virtual classroom events
  • Engage with learners through discussion forums
  • Maintain virtual lab environment templates


Basic Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strongly self-motivated and able to work independently
  • Technical training skills and background, and/or Programmer/Writer experience in a software development environment, is required
  • Strong programming experience with deep knowledge of the Microsoft .NET platform, Microsoft Visual C#, HTML/CSS, JavaScript, and XML. Intermediate to extensive knowledge of ASP.NET. Knowledge of Unix and the LAMP (Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP) platform a plus.
  • Competent using SQL Server Management Studio for managing databases and writing TSQL queries
  • Working knowledge of Windows Servers, Active Directory Services and virtual machine infrastructures (primarily Microsoft Server Hyper-V) is preferred
  • Healthcare IT background and expertise with clinical applications preferred
  • Occasional travel to customer sites may be required
