Technical Environment / 3D Artist

This is a Tech Artist Role working in our Holographic Video team; Creates environments for use in holographic video including modeling, texturing, mapping, lighting/shading under the direction of a Lead Artist. May assist with asset organization and management. May assist with the creation of conceptual art work. May assist with effects and animation of models. Works with Lead Artist and other team members to achieve a cohesive style. Some coding experience, if this technical artist was technical enough they would want to get into the source code.

In this role you will assist the Holographic team and external partners in producing high-quality experiences leveraging holographic video.
Expertise in Maya, 3DsMax or similar required, 3D graphics and gaming experience highly valued.
This is a cool opportunity to work on cutting edge tech on this new program be on the ground floor engaging. You will be working on a new medium with very interesting and innovative partners to prove out a concept and make cool compelling experiences from it.

Portfolio review required; This person will help creating environments for holographic video applications; portfolio should show experience from photo realistic to synthetic or CG/gaming; have to have some photographic/photorealism experience, may also need to do CG or synthetic work as well

Disqualifier: would be no photorealism in portfolio
Day to Day:
• Mostly independent work with the AD, checking in and consulting with AD and Sponsor. Lots of engagement with external people who want to use the product. This person is the liaison with the artist and content production types.
• Hours will likely be working with clients to identify technical artistic needs to liaise between client artist and content production types
• Core hours 11-4
• Client and production interaction helping to proactively create demo and prove what the system can do and helping early partners of ours to succeed in their prototypes and demos
• Most time with internal team, it depends on the person, if they are best dealing with the client he will have them client facing

Skills:
5 plus years’ experience in creating 3D graphics required.
Extensive knowledge of graphics software (i.e. Photoshop) and 3D modeling software (i.e. Maya, 3D StudioMax) required.
Conceptual sketching skills preferred.
Ability to ensure photo-realism.
Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts, Architecture or related field and/or certificate of completion in 3D preferred but not required.
Experience with shipped titles a plus.
Ideal candidate on paper is someone that has worked on a Unity game title or two, working on the characters; for example, if they have created an asset in 3DsMax or Maya, they need to be able to make it run in Unity

Best vs. Average:
someone who has worked on a Unity game title or two working on the characters on those titles
Some scripting back ground will help; for example, the previous person wrote a visualization tool in C++ and StudioMax; that was really helpful;
70% technical and 30% artist – confident as an artist but solve artistic problems

Top 3 Requirements:
• Maya, 3DsMax or similar required also prefer experience with Photoshop
• Unity experience is highly preferred
• Gaming asset production highly preferred: has worked in gaming or is a high level player – game asset production has created a character for a game; people from a gaming back ground tend to appreciate the kind of optimization they need to make
