Technical Editor

Publishing team is seeking a technical editor with substantial user assistance experience to help us re-imagine our team style guide. We’re looking for an editor who has experience making stale style guides new and shiny again. The position includes assessing the information on 3+ internal team sites, comparing to current published content, identifying the discrepancies, and then updating and consolidating it all with current guidelines that haven’t been captured yet.

The ideal candidate can “wear different hats,” and likes the challenge of switching between several core tasks – such as editing an ebook, updating style guidelines, interviewing a writer about a team process (to inform style guide updates), and then editing some core help topics.

The team is a complete productivity suite built on a flexible platform, and is continuing to expand with new products. We are making substantial investments in building / integrating mobile, social, and communications technologies and modern user experiences. We are an agile team, and we deliver in a fast-paced Software + Services environment.

The team delivers web content, including videos, eBooks, quick start guides, and articles, through three web portals.

Responsibilities:
Update and reorganize multiple internal team sites into 2 (Style Guide and Processes/Tools)

Edit:
Online help and articles for publishing on several websites
Server installation and setup documentation
Ebooks and quick start guides
Video scripts to help nurture the messaging and flow

Ensure all content adheres to product terminology and legal requirements
Requirements
• Technical Editor qualifications plus: 5 plus years of work-related experience
• Experience with the CMS tool
• Perform all levels of editing, from developmental to copy editing
• Knowledge of the editing requirements for a wide variety of documentation
• Familiarity with modern voice principles
• Work quickly and independently, change direction often, and assimilate a lot of information provided in email and team meetings
• Work closely with editors, doc leads, writers, production engineers, and video producer on issues affecting the quality of the documentation
• Experience with video development, in particular script development is a plus, but not a hard requirement
