We are looking for a technical editor with substantial user assistance experience. We are looking for an editor who can “wear different hats”, and likes the challenge of switching between editing Help content for end-users and then working on some ebooks, before changing gears to work on video scripts. Sound like fun?
Responsibilities:
To excel at this job, you must be able to:
• Edit in-product Help.
• Edit articles for publishing on the Web.
• Edit for technical accuracy, terminology consistency, and audience appropriateness.
• Perform all levels of editing, from developmental to substantive to copy editing.
• Be assertive enough to enforce the team's high editorial standards and outgoing enough to build strong working relationships with other groups.
• Ensure content adheres to product branding and legal requirements.
• Research and provide input on issues of user interface text, terminology, and taxonomy.
• Contribute to the style guide.
Qualifications:
Qualified candidates must be able to:
• Work fast and independently, change direction often, and assimilate a lot of information provided in e-mail and team meetings.
• Work closely with managing editor, leads, writers, program managers, and developers on issues affecting the quality of the user experience, including the UI and documentation.
• Analyze and organize complex documentation and communicate recommendations to writing team.
• Manage multiple tasks simultaneously with little supervision.
• Meet deadlines.
Requirements
They must also have:
• Technical Editor 1 qualifications plus: 5 plus years of work-related experience is required.
• Experience using GitHub.
• A proven ability to learn new tools quickly and to an acceptable depth.
• Ability to edit a high volume of content.
• Outstanding editing skills.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Knowledge of the editing requirements for a wide variety of documentation.
Preferred:
• Bachelor's degree in Technical Communications, English Literature, Journalism or related field.
Pluses:
• Experience editing IT Pro content, such as server installation and setup documentation.
• Experience editing UI text and/or error messages.
