Technical Artist

Our Augmented Reality client has a growing team of experienced incubators, game and software developers working with truly inspiring entertainment technology. We brainstorm exciting and ground-breaking experiences and quickly build working prototypes on top of developing tech. We transform our ideas into reality through shipping a first-to-market product.

You are a talented, motivated and experienced Technical Artist. You are inventive, love building new things, experimenting with new techniques and excel at building innovative rapid prototypes. You have worked with lighting, rendering, and effects. You have a thorough understanding of render states and render targets. And you have solid experience getting the most out of animation controllers, rigs, and state machines.

You communicate and collaborate well with a highly creative development team. You have a proven track record for creating a broad range of tools, techniques, workflows and pipelines for interactive experiences. You are well versed in Unity or an equivalent engine, as well as demonstrate experience with current pipelines, workflow and creation techniques. And you have a solid understanding of form, balance, and composition that helps you translate the vision of the creative leadership into amazing products.

The Technical Artist is responsible for executing the artistic vision of the project and applying their experience directly to the creation of solid artist driven workflows, automation tools, content pipelines, and asset management that are vital for the art team to deliver highest quality industry content to the game. Additionally, the Technical Artist needs to be able to work in multiple areas of the art department and be able to understand the needs of each unique area.

Responsibilities include:

- Responsible for identifying, implementing or inventing the correct technical approach to be able to render the art director’s vision on target
- Effectively understanding and translating the subtleties in the art director’s vision into magic in the experience
- Be a positive and creative force in the team
- Responsible for working with and seeking feedback from peers and leads
- Strengthen the platform as a whole by seeking ways to share expertise with other art teams within the organization
- Provide unique solutions to improve the creative process in a collaborative environment
- Identify emerging techniques or methods that will enhance the team’s development pipeline and understand how to leverage them for best effect
- Support the content creation teams with tools, workflow, and pipelines to aid generation and implementation
- Meet project deadlines and milestones
- Mentor artists in best practices, processes, and procedures pertaining to production pipelines and workflows


- Self-motivated and comfortable dealing with the ambiguity of V1 and incubation work
- Ability to self-direct and identify systems or techniques that can be improved upon and then implement those improvements
- Passion for games, technology, and/or amazing user experiences
- 6+ years as professional artist or equivalent experience
- Minimum of at least one current console generation title as a Technical Artist
- Proficient with standard tools like Maya or equivalent program with a high capacity to learn new tools and processes
- Proficient with modern scripting languages like Python and Jscript. C++, PHP and SQL would be a bonus
- Demonstrate knowledge and application of next gen workflows and pipelines
- Experience working with latest rendering techniques such as IBL, PBR, and procedural texturing
- Experience optimizing assets and systems for multiple platforms such as mobile, console, and PC
- Unity expertise a big plus
- Passion for the industry and an understanding of industry trends and technologies
- Deep understanding of the development process
- High school diploma or GED required.
- AA/BFA preferred, or at least can demonstrate through portfolio an industry standard level of art.
