Our client, one of the largest nonprofit, nonpartisan organizations with a membership of more than 37 million needs an experienced Taxonomist as key member of an enterprise-wide task-force. As a member of the Digital Strategy & Operations team, you will work on developing and implementing a large scale universal taxonomy system. As a mid-senior level practitioner, you will be expected to lead segments of a project, work directly with staff and taxonomy consultants, socialize the project to stakeholders, and help drive a point of view for achieving project objectives. You will help develop the taxonomy framework, vocabulary, project plan and implementation plan across the organization’s complex network of platforms. In addition, you will help establish company-wide best practices and governance systems for the management of the system. This is a unique opportunity to help shape and execute a critical component of the digital transformation and to aid the organization in setting up infrastructure which will enable enterprise-wide management.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Define, develop, map, evaluate, and maintain taxonomies
• Lead taxonomy implementations including taxonomy framework analysis and taxonomy
development
• Conduct content audits and content analysis
• Develop content models and metadata schemas, tagging, conducting metadata audits.
• Strong understanding and application of Web technologies. Experience with taxonomy, metadata, controlled vocabularies, classification, analyzing search logs and Web metrics
• Support integration of taxonomies with CMS and WCMS, DAM, taxonomy management tools, search engines etc.
• Provide training on taxonomy maintenance, tagging, or tool use

QUALIFICATIONS:
• A minimum of 5 years’ of taxonomy development experience, including leadership roles in taxonomy framework and vocabulary build out for customer/client
• Strong relationship-building skills
• Proven ability to design and lead discovery activities including stakeholder interviews, user inquiry, website and content performance metrics audits, and taxonomy development workshops
• Hands-on experience with taxonomy development project deliverables
• Experience in working closely with business, technical and process analysts
• First rate interpersonal and communication skills and excellent attention to detail
• Experience in team environments
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills
• Excellent organizational time management skills
• Strong business reporting skills
• Proficiency in all Microsoft Office Tools
• Ability to work at Washington DC office, and remote when needed

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience working with a large, complex organization
• Experience with standalone taxonomy-management systems
• Experience with Content Management and/or Digital Asset Management Systems, preferably Adobe CQ 5/6
• Experience managing content for large Web sites (minimum 5MM Monthly Unique Visitors per month)
• Experience doing user research and usability testing
• Experience preparing business or technical documentation

REQUIRED EDUCATION:
A Masters of Library and Information Science (MLIS) or comparable degree is strongly preferred.
