Taxonomist

One of our valued clients in the oil and gas business is seeking a taxonomist to develop, maintain, and expand application and awareness of the controlled vocabulary to support search, content metadata application, and other business processes and projects. Responsibilities include the selection of a taxonomy management tool, integrating the taxonomy with various line of business systems, and conducting presentations, workshops, and other methods of developing awareness and business applications of the controlled vocabulary. The long term goal is to expand the taxonomy into an ontology for the improvement of content classification and retrieval.

The taxonomist will provide additional supporting services such as the creation of documentation about the taxonomy, including charters, standard operating procedures, and other supporting information. Additionally, this individual will lead the creation and support of any governing bodies necessary for the continued success of the taxonomy. The taxonomist should also act as an educator, providing guidance on information management best practices, including content management, metadata application, effective search methodologies, and organization principles.

The taxonomist will work with internal departments, business users, information technology professionals, the librarian, and search expert to gather and implement business requirements into existing and future systems used to capture, store, and manage content. The taxonomist will also form a partnership with IT to support the technical implementation of the taxonomy, including integration with existing and future systems.
