A. TITLE: Copy writer

B. DEPARTMENT: Marketing/Communications

C. SUPERVISOR’S TITLE: Director of Marketing and Communications

D. NATURE OF POSITION:
The copy writer is responsible for print and online publications produced by the Austin Board of REALTORS® including Austin REALTOR® Weekly, Austin REALTOR® Magazine, MLS Bulletin, REALTOR® Academy Guide, Annual Report, Broker Insider and all content for Abor.com. The copy writer writes articles for publications and the Web, produces videos for the Web, interviews individuals for article preparation and researches industry information to keep updated on timely real estate issues.

In addition, the individual in this position works to meet deadlines established in the editorial calendar. The copy writer develops regular press releases, schedules media interviews and determines topics for delivery in industry Chairman’s Columns (e.g. RealtyLine, Austin American-Statesman and Urban Home Magazine) and television segments (e.g. KVUE ConsumerVue).

The copy writer is responsible for providing statistical reports to media and is responsible for acquiring and editing publication content from various departments. Must communicate and enforce content deadlines. This individual ensures timeliness and accuracy of all articles and media releases. This individual is responsible for meeting production deadlines to ensure ABoR members receive timely, relevant information that benefits their business. Responsible for securing photography when/if needed. This individual is responsible for recruitment of interns if/when needed.



E. BACKGROUND REQUIREMENTS OF INCUMBENT:

i. Education: A bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism or English.
ii. Skills: Detail-oriented; should be a proficient writer and possess desktop publishing skills.
iii. Relevant Experience: professional office environment experience required; experience in publishing preferred; supervisory experience a plus

F. POSITION RELATIONSHIPS:
i. Membership: Works with members to research topical subject matter; coordinates media interviews with volunteer leadership and members who serve as subject matter experts
ii. Governing Structure: None.
iii. Government: None.
iv. Public: Limited involvement.
v. Other organizations: Limited involvement.
vi. Association staff: Works with other departments for publication content.

G. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Writes/edits articles for print and online publications. Researches and develops topics for industry articles and television segments. Maintains insight on important issues of interest to members.

H. PLANNING:
Creates and executes plan for publication content development and production. Ensures content and print deadlines are met.

I. DECISION AUTHORITY:
Reports to Director of Marketing/Communications.

J. BUDGETING RESPONSIBILITIES:
None.

K. OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:
i. Supervisory responsibilities: None
ii. Supervision received: Guidance is provided by the Director of Marketing/Communications.
iii. Availability of qualified personnel: A qualified candidate should be obtained in thirty days.
iv. Other relevant remarks: Must have strong writing skills.
