Job Description:
As a forerunner in the packaging solutions industry, our client offers a dynamic and international environment for driven professionals. Our interdisciplinary work approach encourages a fun office environment with constant dialogue and idea generation. They deliver first-class packaging design, supply chain development and sourcing to some of the world’s largest brands. They are based in Portland, Oregon and have regional offices throughout Europe and Asia.

Responsible for ensuring all department structural designs and prototypes are aligned with customer design intent, value proposition and manufacturability. This position involves a wide diversity of work situations and requires the ability to manage multiple projects efficiently and with thorough follow-up. Contacts within the company are with local, offsite and over-seas offices. Communications are often with individuals of another cultural background who speak and write in English as a second language.

We expect you to be responsible for the entire packaging design process from ideation, revisions, to die-line finalization.

• Packaging design for US and European brands that meet sales team and brand aesthetic and technical requirements
• Produce ready-to-manufacturer designs for implementation overseas
• Collaborate with Packaging Engineering team on testing and board specification
• Ensure product quality by analyzing box design performance utilizing a variety of applicable testing methods
• Daily collaboration with internal sales and project management teams
• Lead, mentor and share knowledge with Jr. structural designers
• Frequent communication (phone, video, email) with design and project teams in China and Europe, sometimes after hours
• Direct customer contact and interaction

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of work experience and education.
• 7 or more years work experience in structural package design with production experience in the corrugated and/or folding carton industry.
• Demonstrated ability to use structural design software (Artios CAD, Score, Impact, etc.) to produce professional designs.
• Superior verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and cooperate effectively across cultural and organizational lines
• Ability to handle and prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
• Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail
• Creative problem solver with ability to work through processes to identify critical paths for success
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (intermediate level)
• Working knowledge of CAPE and Truckfill
• Understanding of packaging testing methods (ISTA and TAPPI)
• Clients: Retail and apparel companies, so experience in those industries would be a plus.

Other essential qualities for this role are a commercial mindset as well as, self-motivating and driven personality. To succeed, you also need to be innovative, creative and have good communication skills. Occasional international travel is required, so you must be able to obtain US Passport and foreign Visas as needed. This role is based in Portland, OR.
